WojYahooNBA: The Hornets have agreed to trade Hilton Armstrong to the Kings, an Eastern Conference exec with knowledge of deal says.

The Hornets have traded forward Hilton Armstrong and cash to Sacramento for a future conditional second rounder, sources tell Y! Sports

I thought Armstrong would have been a nice pickup for the Blazers since it wouldn't have cost them much. He's better than anything in the NBADL and can play PF & center.

I would agree with that. I just don't know who we would have traded to NO. Who did Sacramento send to NO?

Wow that's crazy. Hilton is a pretty decent player IMO. The problem we have, is our roster is full.

Whats up with all the trade flury this morning???

Teams tweaking their lineups and saving some cash.

I assume Dallas traded for Najera because they wanted to get a player back who would just be quiet and sit on the bench, and give them energy in the rare situations they would use him. Humphries never has been a happy camper if he doesn't get enough playing time.

New Orleans is just trying to save cash. It's that simple.

Looks like we need some tweeking too.

Branden Haywood.... I only worry what it does to our roatation next year

The signing of Patty Mills rears its ugly head yet again.

This was the perfect deal since it didn't require the Hornets getting anything back but a future 2nd rounder.

I don't, providing Joel goes out as part of the deal. 9 pts 10.6 boards and 2 blocks per game?

I started a thread the other day where I showed the Blazers pretty much win every game they win the rebounding war. That has pretty much continued since the day I posted that. Getting a center would allow Lamarcus to go back to PF, and help a lot.

Nothing to see here until the offseason if you're a Blazer fan.

Yep I am pretty sure you are correct sir! We will get a few players back here and there, and we will go through the rest of the year short handed on the front line.

The issue isn't necessarily a full roster. N.O. needed to move salary to move closer to the L.T. limit. Sacramento had cap space. Which is why they could send a second rounder for Armstrong. We don't have that, so any complaints that we didn't make this move are off base. We COULDN'T make this move.

We couldn't have made this EXACT move, but we could have been involved in a 3-way deal, or cleared space to make this work. Armstrong has been in trade rumors for weeks and was highly available. KP could have cleared cap and roster space if he wanted to acquire him.

Actually we do have cap space. We are a few million under the cap I believe. We don't go over until next year when Brandons and Lamarcus extension kick in.

Yeah, we have about a million in cap space. Not enough to acquire an extremely mediocre player in Armsrtong. Sure, we could have tried to shuffle aprts, to clear more space. But really? We want to move 1.5 million in salary "somehow" to acquire Armstrong?

Some sort of 3 way deal involving Armstrong likely would have sent a player back to N.O. Or, we would have had to move over a million in salary to acquire him. What do you propose we shoudl have done for that? Move Mills and another one of our rookies? Hardly worth it, IMO.

I figured if they were going to clear a roster spot using Mills they would have done it by now. But they appear set to keep him, so they must have high hopes for him.

If joel is part of the deal i would do it, but would they want Joel? he was severly injured

Probably not. The only thing that we have going for us, is the same thing all the teams have going for them. The Wizards are probably going to tear down the team and rebuild. Chances are, they don't want a couple of hurt leftovers from Portland to rebuild with.

sean williaims released by the nets today.

This Sean Williams?

(The fun part was that they released him so they could acquire... Shawne Williams! Somewhere Shaun Williams is feeling left out.)

Damn.. Armstrong would've fit that role of a stop-gap big man for us. And for a conditional second-rounder? Might as well just give him away for free. 6-11 guy who bangs around and can board wouldn't have been bad. Don't know what his contract situation is though..

He has a team option for next season. Making 2.8 million this season, which is why we were unable to do anything as good as this for N.O. to bring him in here.

1. Hilton Armstrong is not a very good big man. Even if we had the cap space, which we don't, I wouldn't give up a 2nd rounder for him. That's like moving Pendergraph or Cunningham for him, both of which, at younger ages, are significantly superior big men. I'd much rather keep our 2nd rounder to get a much better player in the offseason.

2. We do have the roster spot, we'd just need to waive Randolph, and Randolph is also more skilled IMO, so ...

More skilled? At Basketball?

Maybe before S-bo had surgery quite a while back, but Hilton is a much better big man these days even as he's having his worst season as a pro.

I thought we were talking about pianists. My bad. ;)

Love the question though. Cracked me up.

I actually like Randolph. When given time during his last stint with us he always produced, and more efficiently than Armstrong does. I still think he's a quality guy, and yes, more skilled.

Isn't that roster spot a "Get me through" until we get a few bodies back, or is it good for the whole year?

I think it depends on what becomes available. He's currently signed to a 10-day contract through the 18th of January. We can then sign him to a second 10-dayer. We then let him go or sign him through the remainder of the season.
