I'd take Hawes all day, every day. With his shooting ability, our offense would be unstoppable.
And he'd come cheaper.
Why do I get the impression that the Monroe "chase" is just to keep Paul Allen happy in the idea that the Blazers can pursue big names?
We don't HAVE to trade one of our starters to get $$ to work in tradeRemember for Monroe, it's not just Monroe vs Hawes.
Hawes could be an outright sign without giving up players. For Monroe, we would have to trade on of our starters to make contracts work

Let's be realistic here though. You think Detroit will trade Monroe for a bunch of scrubs, especially on a team that had the worst bench in the nba last season?
Agree with all of that. Even point B, which sorta irks me about Hawes -- because he's really vocal about his beliefs, but I can't really use that to gauge his bball prospects.Even more true for Channing Frye.
Probably also true. Plus Channing Frye has (a) professed undying love for the City of Portland, and (b) isn't a fucking Republican. Not to be divisive or anything.
Not necessarily "a bunch of scrubs", but perhaps two or three young players with potential (like CJ, Meyers, & Crabbe).
Even more true for Channing Frye.

The other thing when you bring up Frye, though, is that he's 5 years older than the Hawes, and 6 years older than Monroe. This might not matter for our potential window, but still something to keep in mind.
What we have to give up to entice Detroit and what we have to give up to match contracts are two different things though. You said we'd have to give a starter to match and that's not accurate.Let's be realistic here though. Portland seems the right place for him. People rage about their beliefs all the time. Take a trip downtown...people raging, ranting, chanting and protesting about seemingly everything. The fact that his might not agree with most of those shouldn't make a difference.

Channing Frye is 31 yrs old. Too old for this team and his expected role. Sorry, this ship has sailed.
Monroe is a young beast. Rebounds and Scores in the paint. Power basketball. Toughness.
Hawes is more of a finesse center. Shoots 3's and facing up. But at 7'1" can get his share of rebounds too.
For me, it comes down to which S&T leaves us better off. I say a flat "no" to Frye.
And they chose greg Monroe?
Frye is the old EX from days gone by. Monroe is the smoking hot minx. But Hawes is the one who's pretty and will always be true to you.
Well put. I also think Monroe will command a bigger salary, and for a longer term. Plus, I think Hawes, if anyone, could be the perfect mentor for Leonard.
Are you going to whine for the rest of the season that we didn't go after Lebron? Tell me now, so I can make sure to put you on ignore asap.
Are u serious?! U wouldn't want a player because he's a republican?
