If there really was talk between the Wolves and the Blazers, I think it's a lot more likely that it was about Anthony Bennett, because (as I said in another thread), he's exactly the kind of player (high draft pick who's disappointed) that Olshey has been acquiring, he's looked good for Canada in the FIBA Americas, and Jay Triano is his coach.

"Anthony Bennett a key cog for Canada"

That is what I was thinking. Then I looked at his salary. He just makes too much for a back up PG. ($14 mil per)
And that's what he would be with Dame on the team. I wouldn't mind a pass only PG, if he was really good defensively...and came cheap. Rubio does not really fit that description.

2 seasons ago the wolves were kind of rolling until the all star break and then he got injured and everything collapsed. An injury after the all star break is the most devastating if you're a playoff team or in playoffs contention, we experienced that first hand with Wes this last season.

He didn't want to go to Minnesota at first because "his mom hates the cold" + he's European, that adds up to "questionable character" for me:nunchaku:

NOBODY wants to move to Minnesota because of the cold. But he did, no complaints, and has signed an extension.

So you're the xenophobe but he's the one with questionable character?

This could be that rare trade that makes both teams worse!

I don't think Portland would give up any assets for Rubio. But we might be interested in just taking on his contract. Dude has 4 years left on a contract averaging about 13 mil per year. So if the Timberwolves want to move on, I can see why they'd want to just ditch his contract.

But of course, it would bring up the question, why Rubio and not Matthews? Matthews is a much better player, and both have injury issues.

I am 99% sure this will not happen and has not been discussed, but if you want a comparison, the Suns tried a 2 PG backcourt with Kidd and KJ.

    Didn't work, as I recall.

Are they in luxury tax territory? It's too early to ditch him yet - he'll make the young'uns look good and there's no serviceable replacement. Maybe in a year if Tyus Jones develops, but not now.

I remember hearing something similar before the Blazers got Andre Miller.

Really? I've never heard of a basketball player being called past-first. I have heard people say some baseball players are good at getting past first... base.

I'm not totally against this. What else would the Wolves give us to get us to take Rubio?

They played one full season together, and Phoennix went 56-26.

I didn't event get all the way through the article....the title states the blazers want rubio....then he starts by assuming Minnesota wants to get rid of rubio...and then says oh a good team would be the Blazers. It all lies from a writer who has nothing and is trying to spin something.

    Besides Blazers aren't interested...period

Nash was on that team too. They started the season 0-13 and still made the playoffs. Almost upset the Sonics in the first round.

They're high on Tyus and LaVine is beimg groomed to be a combo guard.

I'd say the deal would most definitely include CJ going to Minny.

Is Rubio 100% healthy? He wasn't cleared for normal bball activities until July iirc.

This better be just an ugly rumour.
We shouldn't be trading young assets for Rubio.
