Politics PEW: 40% of Millennials Don't believe in Free Speech

Those fuckwads have a deal, as long as I get to snatch those stupid cockring earrings off their heads.

Interesting article. As you might guess, I have no interest at all in having the government limit speach. But! Kind of funny to see such a divergence of opinion on this since there was not one example of offensive speech given. I just learned today, that my calling the person that is the Governor of our state, a Lady, was offensive. I did this yesterday in this forum.
Do as many as 40% of any group actually believe the force of law should be applied to such a transgression?

So that is what those are!
Well, I've seen them 3 or more inches in diameter. So, some of them are.:irock:

One of my wife's employees had them but stopped wearing them. I was told it would be 3 grand to get her ears repaired.

There is no right to free speech in a privately owned forum.

Although it has nothing to do with the thread topic, other than people believing things... in this case something that is factually not true, rather than just an opinion.

“On Tuesday, the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) released a poll showing that a full 72 percent of Americans believe that the economy is in a state of recession… And Wednesday, Bloomberg News released a poll showing that a full 34 percent of Americans mistakenly believe the unemployment rate is now worse than it was when Obama took office, right after the economic collapse had already sucked up millions of jobs. For Republicans, that figure is 53 percent — a majority.”

History stopped with the Baby Boom generation. I don't know what you irrelevants are talking about.

Stupid fucking Armadillo-kin demisexual non binary fuckheads.

Millennial sounds like armadillo, Jay Leno, and Tokyo Rose to me. But what does "meme" mean? Sounds like millennial.

I was under the impression that the "me,me" generation was the Boomers. :dunno:

You know the best way to end any kind of intellectual discussion??

Just say, "I'm offended."

But I don't blame the young generation for giving away their right to freedom of expression. Their parents took away any opportunities to deviate from the norm. Millenials have a culture that is as generic as processed cheese wiz.

I've hated my generation ever since I taught myself to critically think.

I cant believe people will shoot others because of words. They disrespected me so to save my ego I have to murder. Shit is fucking insane. Say what the fuck you want about me, I dont care.

What scares me is that when they believe in something that is good they run around acting like little fascists.

What can you tell a group of people acting like assholes when they're marching for equality?

Me...hey, why are you running around a library flipping off people and screaming at the top of your lungs?

Them....don't you think black lives matter???

Me...well, yeah but what do you think screaming at kids studying is going to do????

Them...GET HIM!!!!!!!

!!!!

I don't believe for one second that that happened to you.

No of course it didn't. It was an example of what I would expect to happen based on the videos I've seen. These kids are fucking nuts.

My point is that they are right about something so it's hard to call them out on their behavior.

It was like the time I got pissed off at Costco when I tried to buy my mom a Keurig and they wouldn't let me use my debit card because I wasn't on the account.

I pushed the cart out to the car and then after unloading it I picked the whole cart up and hung it on a handicapped parking sign. I was a bit irritated and I overreacted. Luckily I didn't throw it at someone.

Actually I'm glad I haven't been exposed to these kids. They don't think for themselves as far as I can tell. I would probably say something to get myself killed.

It depends on the definitions to which you described. Most people don't understand the specific definition of a recession. As for the unemployment rate, there are many definitions. While the U3 is lower, the U6 is higher. It's sad the BLS has been politicized.

The 1st Amendment is the lynchpin for all the others. Young people are too inexperienced to realize it. They will in time.

That is not correct. The U6 was 14.2 in Jan 2009, it was 9.8 in Oct 2015.

Again, it's definitions. What was the labor participation rate in Jan, 2009? And do you think the last month is the indicative one? What was the average U6 or U3 for President Bush's and President Obama's tenures? Most people would average out such numbers, not take one of the worst numbers from one administration and one of the best from another.

People think it's a recession (even though it technically isn't), because the "recovery" was a dead cat bounce. Now that recovery has run out of steam and we're just bouncing on the bottom waiting to drop further.

What was quoted was "And Wednesday, Bloomberg News released a poll showing that a full 34 percent of Americans mistakenly believe the unemployment rate is now worse than it was when Obama took office"

Sure, some people might decide those words mean something else. To the extent the English language means anything at all, those people would simply be wrong.

No. The bottom was 2009. We are way off the bottom now. People think that we are in a recession because (a) as you say, they don't know what a recession is, and (b) they've been lied to by certain parties who have an interest in them believing we are in a recession.

barfo

Many people sense we're in a recession because of the pathetic rebound, as maxiep said, and the mediocre GDP growth and the quality of jobs that are available.

The lying that's been done is about wage and wealth disparity.

Oh, dear. I see you are trying to pretend you're well-acquainted with economic theory when you are trying to hold people to specific definitions (the letter) but ignoring the larger picture (the spirit).

Yes, you are technically correct when you say that those terms have specific meanings. However, if you ask most people how to calculate the unemployment rate, they couldn't do it. And especially not the different specific unemployment rates. So they're wrong. Big deal. Do you think those 34% feel good about this economy? It's been a disaster for specific sectors of it.

And LOL about "way off the bottom". It's been the weakest recovery since WWII. And any decent economist will tell you that the deeper the recession, the bigger the bounceback. This recession most modeled 81-82. Instead, the recovery has looked like that coming out of the recession of 1929-33. Of course, that one was much deeper, but we're seeing the same kind of bounceback, and that's what so troubling.

As for who is making everyone feel bad, I see you forget what the Democrats said about life in the Bush era. I personally remember the snarky replies of Democratic politicians when presented with low U3 and U6 numbers like, "Sure people have jobs, and they're working three of them just to make ends meet". Today, they don't even have the option of working three of those jobs. Sorry your fragile snowflakes can't take other politicians pointing out the flaws in the "recovery". Perhaps if it were actually a robust recovery, the evil Republicans wouldn't be able to spin it in such a mean way.

No. I am not well acquainted with economic theory. You are the economist here, yet you are the one who claimed "the U6 is higher". So I went and looked up the rates, and surprisingly enough, the economist was wrong.

Now you (the economist) want to claim you were right 'in spirit' about the U6 rate. Sorry, not buying that. Employment statistics are not spiritual. I think you are one of the 53% who have allowed themselves to be convinced of a factual untruth due to bias.

And LOL about "way off the bottom". It's been the weakest recovery since WWII.

Yes, but it's been going on for a long time now. So we are way off the bottom. Is everything rosy? Definitely not.

Perhaps if it were actually a robust recovery, the evil Republicans wouldn't be able to spin it in such a mean way.

That's absolutely true. If things were better, Republicans would have a somewhat harder time lying.

They still would, of course. But it would be harder.

Way to derail a thread guys.

Anyways, millenials are fucking morons. They are more concerned with pointing out problems and blaming someone than actually fixing the problem. They know fixing a problem takes time and effort. if they don't get the change in a short amount of time, they give up. It's called the microwave generation.

It's a Damn shame too. They could make so Much good change in this world with all the social media platforms and tools they have available to them. Instead they just like to bitch and put blame on others

What I don't get about my generation (if I even count as a millennial-1994) is how hypocritical they are. Full of anti-gov conspiracy theorists yet want MORE gov. Don't get me even started on their gender logic and shit, it's like a scene out of idiocracy.
