As if Obama wasn't bashed here for 8 years....nothing new....different forum members gloating is all.....the lack of civility in discussions has gone downhill a bit...now bashing forum members is the new trend....people need to talk about the subjects offered without insulting those with differing opinions...then we'll have some balance...other than that I would recommend anyone who's unhappy with the forum to unwatch controversial threads and just not go there...Sly does a great job of damage control around here.....a loyal poster like BGD had really thick skin for the insults he gets...he just brushes it off....folks could learn from that....if you go into OT and the thread is about Trump....expect it to be controversial but please keep it about Trump and not about forum members...that's a start
 
I've been posting less, there just doesn't seem to be room for discussion. I like to use the forum to gauge opinions but I've stopped trying to debate on all political issues: people on all sides seem unwilling to enter a discussion with an open mind. I'm done with hoping for actual discourse.

And I include myself in this. I think Trump is a horrible person and this is the first time I've ever had zero respect for the presidency. I wasn't a fan of "W" but I still respected him and I especially still respected the office. But just as I can't convince pro-Trump folk of anything I highly doubt they could convince me. We aren't reading from the same book anymore.

Well Further my friend we never did see eye to eye, but we could discuss a few things. Now a whole damn bunch of you are willing to post the shit like I just quoted for you. and not a one of you have been harmed by Trump so it is difficult to image how posting negatives about the man serves anyone. When I post about the actual harm Obama did to me and my wife and millions of people like us, it is real. Real even if you guys are like river and rest of you, claim he did no harm, it was the Company that did it. Well fuck, how damn brilliant! Make it legal for the company and encourage them, then you claim he's clean. Fuck! That is ignorant.

But, I bet you fellas could just have a wonderful time educating each other, exchanging your like minds in a safe place, shelter from us deplorables, that like that brute, Trump.
Just think on it. You could be free to disgust each other endlessly, without retaliation, time after time. Geez man, damn near nirvana.

But just to be as honest as possible, I do not think I will ever be ready to have a polite conversation about using he Constitution for ass wipe.

I have yet to see anyone attack or insult anyone who is a Trump fan. The closest we've had is me calling Denny, DennyAnne Craneway. (Which for the record Denny says is a personal insult. I don't agree but oh well.)

You on the other hand do push the limit in insults in your defense of Trump.

When you and Denny have come out in support of Trump I see lots of conversations and replies to your posts.

What does that even mean. So you can say horrible things about Obama because you feel they are the truth? Couldn't that be used as justification for what some are saying about Trump?

As @Further so eloquently (and accurately) put it, we're not reading from the same book anymore. And your post certainly puts a fine point on that observation. You're always right and the rest of us are always wrong. What a waste of all your education. So much for intelligent conversation........
 
I put all the crazy crap on my ignore list. I do the same on every site that I visit that allows political discussions. I have no problems discussing issues with people who have a differing view point as my own but when people can't even be civil enough to make it worth discussing then I see no other recourse but to just shut it down.

It does not have to be a waste. Unless of course we just hang, sling insults about the President. I think you and I both know, no good will come of that waste of time.
When people do not see the same picture, can't conjure up the same image, the best they can do is probe for where they do have commonality and slowly work from there, treading softly but expecting little until the common issue is a little more clear. A hate exchange won't work.

For the most part I would say the political discussions are very civil here.

But I'm always interested if finding ways to improve this.

Well enlighten me. I can't think of what I might have said that would justify the Trump hate. So put it out there, let us see if there is justification for all to see.

Yeah, well this site is ran a little better than most other sites I frequent. Also, I probably have a different view of civil than most others. For me it's not just cussing and name calling. When all a person can do is throw crap your way like an ape in a zoo, I don't see this as being a civil conversation. It's more angry and hate filled imo.

I think you and I have tried to find that common ground.......up to a point. We like Petrie, sailing etc, etc. And that's good enough for me. Hey, I've always said I'd buy you a beer (or three) if we were ever to meet and I have never wavered from that (and am still waiting). And I don't particularly (and truly) care what your (or anyone else's) politics are so long as all sides are permitted to express their opinions and the discourse remains civil (again, to a point. I'm the first to admit that talking generally respectful smack has it's place). I know I'm not going to change your current opinions about the general state of things in America and you certainly aren't going to change my opinions either. I just refuse to be talked down to. So....for the most part anyway....I try to keep my sense of humor (difficult to do for any of us right now) and more or less go with the flow. Personally, I've grown tired of pissing into the wind and I suspect more than a few other posters feel the same way........except for those to whom political discourse is a contact sport (we all know who they are). I think that number is coalescing into a very few.......and that's a good thing For the health of this website.
