'We have a crisis': Democrats at war over trove of voter data

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Democrats are at war over the party’s most precious commodity — voter data — and it’s threatening their chances of beating President Donald Trump in 2020.

The fight involves a trove of Democratic voter information splintered among state parties, outside groups and the Democratic National Committee. The DNC wants to pool all of it into one massive database that could be leveraged to the benefit of the party’s eventual presidential nominee. But state parties are accusing the national party of mounting a power grab that could enrich a handful of elite party figures.

“We have a crisis,” said Robby Mook, Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager in 2016. “Republicans are going to have a major strategic advantage over us in 2020 if we don’t fix it.”

But the DNC’s answer has provoked a fierce backlash among state parties, who have most of the ownership rights to the party’s voter file. Tensions flared at a meeting of state-based party officials here last week.

The DNC is advocating a proposal modeled on the Republican Party’s data operation. It would amass all the voter data from Democratic groups into a single, for-profit entity.

The structure has two advantages. Because the voter data firm would be set up as a private organization, it would allow Democrats to raise money for it free from campaign finance limits. The setup would also enable liberal groups to integrate the data as they gather it, instead of continuing with the balkanized system currently in place. In theory, the progressive ecosystem could then work in concert to collect more data points on each voter.

Nothing is threatening the Democrats' chance of beating Trump in 2020. Fred, my plumber, could beat Trump.

"I am not a member of any organized political party. I am a Democrat."

-- Will Rogers
Yes, America's greatest folksy comedian and a noted political satirist was a Democrat as was Groucho Marx and my favorite actor, Kirk Douglas.
In fact, ever since Dwight Eisenhower, our last great Republican President, all of our good to great Presidents have been Democrats, JFK, Johnson, Carter, Clinton and Obama. Compare that with Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush, Bush and our gangster President, Trump.

I'm pretty sure I heard that in 2016.
A fluke of a lifetime never to be repeated. His popularity has actually gone down since he was elected. I might add that a lot of Democrats are kicking themselves in the butt for assuming Hillary would win resulting in them staying home on election day.

Americans tend to re-elect war time presidents.

I don't bet money.

But, I'll bet anyone of you conservatives $100 she doesn't run.

My only hope is whoever the candidates are, they’re better than the last ones were... If we manage to find even worse candidates as unfathomable as that is, that says a lot about where we are right now. I dont think Hillary will run and if she does I think itll be a short lived run.

Bernie was a great candidate who would've beat the shit outta Drumpf.

Except now Trump's ineptness has been on full display for 2 years. I bet there are many that regret voting for Trump. Trump campaigned on lies and the fact that he wasn't a politician. So much for that being a quality that will help lead the country.

Trump will have a much easier time of motivating his base to go to the polls. If the dems nominate Hillary again I see lots of dems staying home.

A 40% base is not enough to carry Trump and I see no way Clinton is the democratic nominee.

Why do people keep bringing up Hillary? She's NOT going to run again, she's NOT going to run again, she's NOT going to run again.

Her pick to run the DNC is in charge. The rest of the high ranking members who stacked the super delegates in her favor before she had even won a single primary are still there. Right now she is in India, being paid to attend the wedding of the daughter of India's richest man. She's doing high paid speaking engagements again. Looks like she's stacking the DNC in her favor and building a campaign war chest to me.

Ain't gonna happen. It's going to be a crowded field and she's just not in the mix.
I'll believe it when it happens and I don't think it's gonna happen.
However, there is that one in a Million chance. Should that one in a Million actually happen, there is no doubt in my mind but that she would shellac Trump. One slight hitch, it ain't gonna happen because she won't run.

Superdelegates are gone now, I think? In any case she got more non-superdelegate votes than Bernie last time.

I'm not sure Tom Perez (if that's who you meant) is a Hillary stooge.

She's not running again. I'm not sure why you would think she is.

I wonder what excuse people will come up with for voting for Trump this time?

If Hillary was some sort of unspeakable evil that justified Trump, then will the next Democrat also be unspeakably evil? I'm guessing yes.

I'm guessing you're exactly right.

As far as I'm concerned, Trump is the biggest RINO ever. He is a total political pragmatist; he'd run as whatever he thought was in his own best interests. He was a registered Democrat throughout most of the 2000's. He threatened the Republicans that he'd run an Independent if they didn't support him. As Jeb Bush said during the 2016 campaign, “He was a Democrat longer than he was a Republican. He's given more money to Democrats than he has to Republicans." Trump even gave campaign money to Hillary Clinton.

Just sayin'.

Yeah, but he'd lose the evangelicals and he cannot afford that. They literally believe Jesus brought them Trump.

I suppose it's possible that Jesus has as much contempt for his followers as Trump has for his own.

Put your money where your mouth is then? :dunno:

I have a standing $100 bet to any conservative that she doesn't run.

Easy money right? "The Dems have no one..." Lol.
