Looks like Im going down that road, Ive tried many different things on both knees but Im bone on bone.
Have appointment with Portland Knee Clinic coming up, but wondering if anyone you have had it done and what your experience was? Thanks

You friends with oden roy or ezili? Hit them up if so.

On the serious, best of luck to you.

The only thing I've heard, from relatives/friends who have had it, is if you need to have both done and you can do both, do both.

Of course, it's been a while since they both had theirs so I'm sure the procedure has improved and isn't so painful anymore.

My brother had one done. He’s happy he did. Pretty tough recovery though.

All the sports and being a runner tell I was 58 just wore them down.
Ive been stubborn about getting them done but wife is hanging on my back like that one commercial.
Doc put me some high powered ibbur

yeah...there comes a point where quality of life has to be priority.

I'm going to hold off as long as I can. Need to lose another 80 lbs or so which would help immensely.

I know a guy who had been limping around for years with a bad hip but he says the doctor recommended he delay it as much as possible because they only last so long.

I’m doing everything in my power to put one off as long as possible but......I know several people who have had them done and while recovery experiences have varied somewhat wildly, all were glad to have had them done in the end. My brother (on his second pair. They only last about 10-15 years) said the best piece of advice he would give anyone contemplating replacement is DO NOT have them both done at the same time. Just because one knee might recover quickly doesn’t mean the other will also. The other best piece of advice I received was not to have it done until you absolutely have to and that you WILL know when it’s time, That aside, my brother also said that all men who are into tools (wrenches etc) will be impressed and envious of the doctor once they get into the operating room. This from a guy who has a shop at home most guys would die for......

Yes but the older you get the harder it is to recover long term from the effects of anesthesia. If you need knees get knees.

Took my mom in this week to see an orthopedic surgeon. He’s a friend of mine and has done some knees of friends who are so happy afterwards. He’s also one of the Blazers docs and I highly recommend him.

Weeeelllllll.....I volunteer at the local food bank with an 84 year old gentleman who recently had a knee replacement and I was in serious awe at how quickly he bounced back from the whole experience. Just in time for a triple bypass.....which he also recovered from remarkably quickly (though he did get too active too quickly and fainted at the food bank one day). I guess it depends on the person and their individual physical condition.

It's the memory that is effected.

I was going to but they told me I was no longer a candidate because of my thrice weekly medical appointments. I'd have a hell of a time going through my appointments shortly after knee surgery.
About once every 5 or 10 years when I'm laying on the couch sideways and go to shift my legs, I pop my knee out of joint and the pain is excruciating. I couldn't even stand up enough to get into my walker. The last time it happened I had to wait 2 or 3 hours until I could hobble into the car to go to the doctor. They did a bunch of photos, I forget which kind, and decided my knee was bad bad bad but there was nothing they could do.
If you go through this sort of pain, I truly pity you.

Hey, my original knee surgery about 40 years ago was also a Blazer doctor. His physical therapist said I recovered faster than any college or pro athlete he had ever cared for. The therapist used to be the physical therapist for the PSU Vikings. Now, my recovery time for my surgeries is about the longest of anyone. It's more than just getting old. Now, if I could just remember what it was.

I need knees. Where can I get some and how many do I need. Lastly, will insurance pay for my new knees and if they don't how much will it cost? I've got several hundred bucks in case insurance will not pay. Well, not on me, I'm good for a loan of up to $300 from the bank and that's cash, my friend. You don't qualify for loans like that unless you have A-1 credit.

Oh Man.....No cartridge. The materials doctors use now can dramatically change your life. This will be an endurance battle. Good luck Bro.. I'm rooting for you.460x1240.jpg

Well, April 1st first total knee replacement.
6 mo. later second one...
Doc strongly advised one at a time as it cuts down risk of problems big time. If something goes wrong at least you have a good leg to stand on.
Outpatient surgery as he said I was in good enough shape.

I was a compulsive runner for 25 years, eat to run, run to eat, and now Im paying for it.

This surgery scares me because I have to let you win all disagreements for 12 months. This surgery will be hard on me, so how about doing both knees at the same time.

Im tempted too believe me...this way i get to come home on the first day if they do two they send you to a rehab place for a couple weeks, my wife wants me to do that.

I think Julius was talking about that (although now that I reread it, maybe he wasn't talking about doing two simultaneously). Anyway, I hope you have minimum suffering. I'll go easy on you as long as I can hold out.

You have a gardener, that's cool.

Show no mercy, that's the way I like it!

I would do the one at a time.
When you say "rehab place" do you mean a physical therapist or a nursing home?
I once stayed in a nursing home for a couple weeks. Actually it was twice, and I didn't like it. I'll never rehab on one of those joints again. I will go home for my rehab. The food is bad and they never get your meds right.
My first nursing home was a Catholic one on the corner of Murray and Farmington. The second one was a VA one in Vancouver adjoining the Vancouver VA hospital. The VA nursing home, like the Portland VA hospital has food that you can't keep down. My first hospital stay that included a stay in the ICU for about three weeks served food so bad that I literally threw up every time I tried to eat it. I lost 40 lbs. My wife started bringing in food from a restaurant or, better yet, from home.
My advice? No nursing home.
