Official our vets suck balls in the playoffs again

I'm really hoping this works again lol.

The vets on this team continue to piss away playoff games. It was a miracle they got away with it vs. Pitt. If those guys did their job we would be coming home at worst 1-1. You can't give away games vs. a team like the Canes. When will that thickheaded fuck Panarin stop staying out on shifts way too long. He does it constantly and Gallant basically OK'd it. Mind boggling.

If I have a Gallant concern overall I think he is way too soft on these players. He's a "players coach", which is fine, but you have to be tough also. I don't think he is based on what I have seen and read. Quite honestly it concerns me, and makes me question whether he is the right guy. You need to have discipline and accountability also, not just smiles and encouragement.

Man, poor Igor has had a roller coaster of emotions so far. Games 1 & 7 amazing, the first two games in Pitt, this one where it gets tied late and then Lindgren deflects it past him. Some intro to your first playoffs.

I was thinking about trying to keep Copp, Vatrano and Strome. Now not so much. If Drury has any clue he should do what he did with Shesterkin with Lafreniere. Lock him up for five years and 25 million because after next year he’s going to cost 8+. Give Kakko three years for about 3.5. Sign Motte. Reeves for one more season. Try to use Georgiev to dump Nemeth. You might have to use Jones to get rid of Nemeth. Resign Blais. That might leave you room to sign just one of Copp, Vatrano or Strome. Copp for me.

It’s one of the reasons we are trying to tell some of our stubborn thick heads on this board that they needed to play the kids more. First, because of the cap and not being able to sign a lot of your vets. Second, you have to wonder if the kids had gotten a lot more icetime and some power-play time would they have finished those chances they had yesterday.

Kakko had an entire net to shoot at to put the game away and missed. This narrative is dead and buried.

The more young players play the clock in their head slows down that’s why they learn to finish after a while they don’t rush things

Hughes is a perfect example on the Devils. He had all this speed with no clue how to use it in the NHL. They played the shit out of him every game and he figured it out. One can only imagine if this organization did the same with Lafreniere and Kakko how much further ahead they would be with their development. Because they are going to need to be locked up next year before the Rangers fuck themselves with the cap, vets will have to be let go which means they will need those kids to score a lot next season. Team very well could look like this. I'm so sure with the cap and his maturity that Othmann won't make the jump next season. Panarin also better learn how to play right fucking wing so Lafreniere could take the left wing on his line. I'd like to keep Vatrano for 2 years but I doubt he would take a 2 year deal or they will have cap room. It would be useless for Othmann to play in juniors as an overager . Thus why I could see him on the team next season. Putting him with Panarin and Copp could help him a lot as a young player. He'll be 20 after the season starts.

Panarin-Copp-Othmann
Kreider-Zibanejad-Kakko
Lafreniere-Chytil-Goodrow
Blais-Motte-Reeves

Missed the game but watched about 10 minutes of highlights and looks like the kid line played strong as they kept popping up with chances. Lafreniere hit the post, Chytil could have scored a 2nd if he had lifted the puck and Kakko with the open net miss.

As the vets continue to be inconsistent, I hope people are starting to realize that we need to play the hell out of these young kids and stop fucking them around with 3rd or 4th line minutes.

Funny how Lafreniere is thriving, and Kakko continues to struggle. Kakko has an extra year, Kakko played more time in the top 6, yet he is behind Lafreniere. Could it be maybe it's about the player not the coaches. I know that is crazy talk, but wow what a novel idea.

I love the Hughes stuff. And where do you mention the absolute pile of trash team Hughes plays for? And guess what, being a year ahead of Lafreniere, Hughes should be better this year. Look at last year Hughes vs. this year Lafreniere for a more fair comparison, and Lafreneiere on a much better team that made the playoffs - Lafreniere more goals same number of points. OF COURSE you won't do that because you have a joke of a narrative you are making up and trying to push.

Here is what I see - Lafreniere is on his way to becoming a stud next season, and is already showing big flashes on a winning playoff team "IN SPITE" of what the coaches are doing to him. Kakko has issues, and in your version it is on the coaches. I say maybe the player needs to man up and improve and not miss wide open nets. Interesting how Lafreniere is thriving and Kakko struggling a year ahead, with the same coaches. Must be the coaches...LOL.

Sadly, some don't 31 but the cap is going to stupid proof the Rangers once again. Drury should be whipped in public if he doesn't give Lafreniere a Shesterkin kind of early contract. Kakko needs to be locked up immediately as well. The cap will simply elminate some vets on this team. Drury's dumbass Nemeth signing will cost him either Georgiev or Jones to get rid of his ass. Get rid of Georgiev, Rooney and Nemeth. Start moving little contracts as well. Move Hunt and Gauthier. Edmonton is on crack if they don't think Georgiev is a better fit on that team than relic Mike Smith. Gimme a break. Drury will have his work cut out for him. I guess Reeves was extended for another year unless I'm reading it wrong.

It's weird being on a Rangers board and seeing Ranger fans arguing against giving our own young players increased ice time to help them develop faster.

I am all for giving the kids more time, and they are certainly playing important roles in the playoffs, which is awesome. I just don't think you force it at the potential expense of winning and making the playoffs, which is also huge for kids growth, and I don't feel it has to be PP1 and 17 mpg or it won't work and is bad. Lafreniere shows that. They have been brought along in a thoughtful way, given more responsibility, and that is okay by me.

Kakko is not about the coaches I don't believe, he needs to improve his game I think. Not going to get on a coach for that.

It's hard to improve your game as a scoring prospect when your entire life you are used to getting 18 minutes of icetime and first PP time and then they use you as a role player. The cap is going to force the Rangers to do what they should have done this season. Rely on Lafreniere and Kakko as cornerstone pieces.

Lafreniere had 31 points in his second year. Hardly "done it".

Baffling that it's controversial that we should be giving the #1 pick in the draft first-line minutes.

Correct me if Im wrong but didn't Lafreniere start the season on the first line w/ Kreider and Z?

Bringing back all 3 of Copp, Vatrano and Motte will be tough, unless you get rid of Chytils salary. Nemeth can be dealt off somewhere with a 3rd round pick or prospect. I wouldn't rule out Kravtsov on the team next year, though it's more likely he's dealt.

I wouldn’t get rid of Chytil. I think the kid is coming on

In year two he had 31 points, 19 goals, and has the most even strength goals on the team over his two years. In addition you can see with your eyes the player Lafreniere is becoming. So yeah he has done it in spite of not getting PP1 time of 17 mpg. It is about the player and the coach, not just a coach. And done it is improve his game. That was the statement, so yes 100% he has done it - improve his game no doubt.

And winning matters also for players growth. The Hughes stuff is funny. The Devs are a laughingstock, but hey he gets PP1 time and 17 MPG. There is more than one way to grow and teach kids. That is the point here.

Yes - Lafreniere has absolutely improved his game. More than one way to grow/teach a kid.

Yep if Kakko only would play more on the power play he would have scored a gimmie last night. Again, other top picks go to teams with shitty talent. Perhaps if Kakko didnt miss almost half the season he would have been given more time. Problem with Laf is there was a guy name Kreider who put up a career year in goals and another guy named Breadman who put up 96 points..so yeah..i think the coach was right to keep those two as his first and second left winger. They tried moving the kid to right wing to give him ice time on the top two lines...which Kakko was given...it didnt work out. This he has to have power play time develops them is such bullshit. Easing kids into a lineup making them play two way hockey will make them better all around players.

you know what would make them even better...having a solid reliable center between them. Can Chytil be that guy...perhaps..wouldnt that be a good thing all three developing together.

All the power play points hughes put up did wonders for the Devils, their power play ranked 28th at 15.6%

I thought this thread is about the vets sucking in the playoffs and not the kiddos :jumprope: development

One blueprint to growing kids - MUST play on PP1 MUST play 17 mpg +. That is it. Anything else does not work and you are f'ing them over...lol.

Playing on a winning team and getting playoff experience...nope. Being held accountable to play a full ice 2 way game...nope.

Playing on PP1 for 17 mpg + on a shitty team with no hopes is all good as long as those thresholds are met.

For the record, I am not saying these kids shouldn't be given opportunities to be a big part of the team, and play important roles, they should. I am taking issue with the thinking that the only way to accomplish maximizing them big picture is play on PP1 and 17 mpg +.

Playing on a better team, with good players, and being asked to be accountable and earn ice time is good as well. Getting playoff experience and playing roles is good as well. More than one way...
