Those of us who would trade LA aren't bashing him at all but he's simply not worth this contract!

    He scored 23ppg on 21fga this year -- career: 19ppg on 16fga.

That contract is reserved for uber-stars like LeBron and KD. Clearly LA is just a tier below them.

This is why Neil should at least consider calling Cleveland for that pick.

We'd not only get a top pick, but we'd have enough cap room to sign someone to a max contract right?

We could sign Greg Monroe to fill in for LA and probably have enough left over for another bench player.

Do we know that's what he'll get would be my question.. Do I think he's on the level of tier 1 stars to get that? Probably not. But how do we know the league thinks he's worth it to offer that?

That's debatable. And the whole point of this thread is to discuss that ridiculous contract. Will he be the best in two years? In three? Because he will be paid like the best for five years starting next summer.

he will likely take around 5/100 in order for the blazers to sign another max-ish guy after next year

    super friends!

okay so before Aldridge injured his groin(before the all-star break) he was playing like a superstar and a top 4 playing in the league period.
No one can argue with that.
It was LBJ, Durant, George, and Aldridge.
Those were the four players that were superstars.
Aldridge picked up his groin injury before the Blazers played the pacers the 2nd time, and played through it.
Aldridge moved into the top tier of NBA players this season.
If he comes out and does it again next year...
Yes he deserves to be maxed out because he's the best big in the NBA.

He's also a healthy player. Doesn't miss extended amounts of time, doesn't take nights off. plays through injuries...(see this year)
Can play defense on the block. He's the best big in the league.

Also in the playoffs he is probably the biggest reason the Blazers made it to the second round.
Lillard was good. But Aldridge makes this team go, he has proven he is a bonified superstar, and will get paid like one.

I like this idea! We should be able to get a lottery pick next year when we don't make the playoffs.

Okay, debate it. Top 2? 3? 4? Where do you rank him? I'd say Top 3 player at any position in the NBA is worth a max contract.

LMA is worth a max contract, there is nothing ridiculous about it.

I would say top three for sure. Will he be top three in three years? In four? That's the question.

I think so. If he stays with the Blazers, and Stotts continues to maximize him. I do think he'll stay as the best big in the game.

So you give up a top 3 now because he might only be a top 4 or 5 in three or four years?

    Makes perfect sense.

this is the nba, people are overpaid all the time at the end of their contracts. hell, all professional sports. see robinson cano.

and like i said, i would say its more likely his deal is closer to 5/100 than 5/127

i think he might age well actuslly, he can shoot decent, and as he slows down he might rely more on brute force in the paint, his most underused asset.

The problems with looking at the size of his contract is that it seems just so massive, but with the cap going up its just a simple max contract

Did I say that? You guys are so black and white. If anyone even dares to discuss Aldridge they are chastised and labeled as a dissenter. I said I would probably keep him in another thread. Get off my nuts.

I'd take Dirk Nowitski, Anthony Davis, Kevin Love, Blake Griffin, and Serge Ibaka over LA. Tim Duncan is better too but is so old.

You said you hated him and wish he were gone. You also said something about his mother. Just admit it, you're a hater.

I think he deserves a big contract, but I think given that we are trying to win a championship, he should take less. How are we ever going to win, otherwise?
