My brother is still mad at me cuz I told him to sell his stocks in 1987!

whoa. Taking a guess at what stocks… id still be mad too! Lol. Grandkids grandkids coulda been set for life!

im still mad at myself for not buying it after my uncle advised me to take my alaskan fishing money and invest in microsoft in 92. I would have tossed down $5k approx.

Worth what now? I dont wanna know!

Maybe he reports, demands the 25% money ($8 million ish). Then goes back to LA.

Forces the 6ers to pay him. The fines aren't signifiant until he starts missing significant games.

What if at some point he shows up to games but never practices or is around the team? Would Doc play him? That would piss off young guys who put in all the work. But playing poorly or playing spot minutes off the bench hurts his trade value. It would be quite a circus.
it's funny--- Kendrick Perkins/Kwame Brown laid out the playbook. Show up, get paid, fake an injury. I want to support Ben in this, but he really comes off looking like an ass here.

This is not new of course. Vince Carter showed up and dogged it for half a year before getting traded for Alonzo Mourning, who also didn't show up at all. Even Rich Paul's client Tristan Thompson went through this and didn't show up until he got the contract extension. It's definitely ugly and that's what we need if we want Ben for cheap, but feels a bit icky.

Paul has a way of making situations more uncomfortable than they need to be. It's his M.O.

Even if you had invested how long would you have held?

Its easy to look at the hundreds of thousands or millions you didn't gain; but if you made 5x profit from $5k to 25k wouldn't you have been tempted to sell?

Its important for a GM to have a good relationships with his players and honest discussions.

If a team fails to do this, fails to act on their requests, treats their players as only assets as Morey does this is what can happen. Ben privately told the 6ers to trade him well before any of this became a public circus.

Now if a teams has a good relationship it will be similar to Larry Nance where all the sudden a player is traded in a fair deal for all parties involved.

Well considering i would have invested when i was 20 and it would have taken what? Approx 5-8 years to net that increase?(wild guess)

so 25-28? I would have sold and put a down payment on a home 15 years earlier than i did.
Or bought a new trailblazer or something. Lol.

so your point is correct. No need to add up the money. Never would have been there regardless.

Also, it's wild that CJ is the president of the Players Union. He could the one convincing Ben to show up to get paid/traded, while also being the primary trade partner.

Didnt think about that. That makes the saga way more interesting. Lol.
What DOES the president of the players union have to say on this!

You are the king of digging up info around here. Havent found anything regarding thoughts from cj on the Ben situation?

nothing too specific:
He said Simmons is possibly justified in wanting more space w/o Embiid and him asking out and holding out is nothing new. As far as trades involving him, he's unfazed by them and is grateful for everything Jody/teammates/previous coaching staff gave him. His goal is to give it his all and try to win a title, but is unbothered if he were to be traded.

I don't see any scenario where Ben can increase his value.

Everyone knows he wants out even if he shows up and plays. And everyone knows they want to trade him, and having Embiid call him out further yesterday confirmed that that bridge is burned completely. There is going to be no reunion with the team and he's not going to magically become Giannis. And even if they win without him, that will do nothing to increase his value.

But there are plenty of ways that his value can crater further. If they start losing and they have a desperate need for win-now pieces, then the urgency increases to trade him. Or if they have an injury and again get desperate to fill his void, then trade partners will have all the leverage.

Morey is stuck. He has to trade Ben now and cut his losses.

If they win without him i would think hos stock just plummets out of control.
However if they do not win without him i could see his stock leveling out. Not going up, not going down. But totally agree. I dont see how it increases no matter what happens at this point.

Is it sad that my eyes are glued to this like a nasty car accident?

That is an odd dynamic.

I believe CJ can effectively manage both of those duties and feelings. Many people couldn't.

I expect CJ to support Ben as he would support any player in this situation being the players union president. He isn't going to worry about a trade involving himself until its completed.

i wonder if Silver gets involved. the idea of faking injuries just to get paid can't sit right with him

Crazy to think that he gets a quarter of a million for showing up to a 2 hour game.

If he goes to camp now I wonder if they have to pay him the $8 million? The contract said it was due 10/1. Seems like he could go, and either get that check or sue them for not paying him an amount due in his contract. If the 6ers have an active case with a player suing them for his wages it certainly won't increase his trade value, help their standing with other NBA players, or help the other 6ers currently on the roster.

No I don't think so. Silver will rely on whatever is in the CBA and Ben's current contract.

Where this could come up is negotiations for the next CBA (2023 summer I think). Owners might want to change the rules to discourage this situation.

He cannot really fake an injury. What are doctors for. And everyone will know he is faking it so they cannot allow it.

He has been such an ass that i kinda wish Morey would get so stubborn to destroy Ben's career by keeping him four years on the bench :emotions:

We haven't heard a real rumor since the summer when all we heard then was that Morey was asking for the best player on every team he talked to. The only noise we have found out recently is that he's waiting for Dame to ask out. Now that that ship has sailed, it's baffling to me there are still no new rumors of offers/calls. Given how loose Rich Paul's lips are, you'd think something would get out. So maybe Morey is as stubborn and vindictive as you wish him to be.

I'm sure the escrow is set up in such a manner that they have technically fulfilled their contractual obligation by its installation.

kwahi Leonard says hello. Many think he faked his way out of SA

Morey is looking pretty stupid right now

It worked for K Leonard. He sat out an entire season after being medically cleared to play - and then openly threatened to sit out an entire 2nd season if not traded.

The difference is Kawhi has actual issues. They are there. Maybe he could play through the pain, but the issue is there and will always be with Kawhi.
Simmons is fully healthy from what we know so far.

Healthy in body maybe

Embiid's recent comments really have me wondering.

Did the team pick actually make a conscious choice to pick Simmons over Butler, or was Butler leaving a foregone conclusion that had nothing to do with Simmons?

If he is correct and they did choose Simmons over Butler, is that where they really went off the rails? There have been times in his career that Butler has been a 1st class a-hole....but if the choice was between Simmons and the Miami version of Butler, I'd want Butler!

Go ahead - tell me I'm crazy!

You aren't crazy. I think Butler is the player I have most dreamt about in a Trailblazers jersey next to Dame. Perfect 1-2 punch.

If Morey does that, he might just stubborn his way out of the league. Certainly, no FA will want to sign there. What a moron.
