What's Boston's cap situation? Will they be looking to clear cap space next summer to try to lure another free agent (or disgruntled star via lopsided trade)? Would our $12.9 million TPE be of any value to them? We have until 7/25/2018 to use it. Without looking up their future cap situation, I'm not even sure if it would be possible, but something like two separate transactions where we deal our TPE for Brown and then Vonleh for a future second rounder might at least be of interest to them. It might require getting a third team involved to make it work (if it's even feasible). BNM
I don’t know how we could make it happen but I stand by my stance that Robert Covington is the perfect forward for this squad.
The biggest issue with Boston is they have zero bad contracts. They have a few guys on big deals, Kyrie, Hayward, Horford, etc. The rest are on small deals. It would be so hard to make contracts match up. So we'd have to basically deal our guys to someone else to get the assets necessary to get Jaylen Brown.
There isn't a foreseeable window right now but no reason it couldn't happen with some key heart attacks, convenient poisonings and front office meltdowns in the near future.
As a note, I was watching highlights on nbatv after the game and the commentator said, "With so many teams going small, the Blazers look like they are going big. You have to love that". Couldn't agree more. We aren't going to beat Golden State at their own game. When they zig, sometimes you have to Zag. And we did, quite literally.
I think Aminu is our dynamic defensive SF. He always shows up when pressure is on. He dropped like 25 points in our one must win game last year. Aminu is underrate around here.
It's preseason....I'm ready as usual to be the perennial underdog and waiting to be thrilled by a young overachieving Blazers squad....nuthin' new really
Agreed. If he's able to focus on that and doing the dirty work he's a significant asset against the firepower of the West. Per usual defense is overlooked, and in Aminu's case undervalued.
Championship window? Sorry, it doesn't exist in Portland. How many times do we have to get rejected by a big name player before this sinks in? The NBA has become a club of elite players who hop from one elite team to another, and Portland is never on their list.
Really? From what I've seen in just a few games, I would already put Collins and Swanigan ahead of Vonleah. They both just have more skills.
If Oden and Roy don't get injured, I think there's at least a 50% chance they'd have won a championship together. It's not all about free agents.
I'm still not sold that CJ and Dame can co-exist on a championship-caliber team. It's just too little defense in a back court. But yeah, I think we definitely are in line to have a top 4 western conference team for a decade if everybody stays healthy. Given where we were after Matthews blew his ankle and the team imploded, it really is a remarkable turnaround.
