Awesome. Now hopefully he can extend his assists to four per game.

Ouch.

Puts him on the same timeline as Dame again. All this talk about trading CJ.....it's never gonna happen unless Dame is also being moved.

Incredible news! Take CJ's name off the 2021 Free Agent list. I don't think people understand how valuable it is to have two franchise players locked in and committed to the team. We've had Dame since 2012 and CJ since 2013 and neither has given us any inclination that they want to leave or even test the market. The fact that our backcourt will be well into their 30's before testing the open market is incredible from a fan perspective.

I really like how the roster is shaping up not only for this season but over the next five seasons as well!

I do really hope he improves his floor game. I had hopes of Ant becoming cheap CJ but now it looks like he’s gonna he traded at some point.

I'm happy with the contract. CJ and Dame as a backcourt isn't what is stopping Portland from potentially winning a title (or at least competing for one). The shitty SF and PF's they've had the last 4 years were a much bigger issue for the team.

this CJ contract is very tradeable.

5yrs 157 for CJ

some recently signed deals
Middleton: 5yrs, 180
Tobias Harris: 5yrs, 180 mil
Jamal Murray: 5 yrs, 170
Porzingis: 5yrs, 160
DAngelo Russell: 4ys, 120

Personally i don't like it because it might affect his trading value if he has any good trading value. Difficult for a team to commit paying CJ at 32-33 years old so much money.
I don't see any reason to rush this extension.

So glad this happened. Cj is damn good. But one thing this doesn’t really mean he won’t be traded if anything it gives us the ability to trade him now much easier. So I like that we control the flexibility of the roster easier

It is. I just don’t think Neil will do it. He’s not gonna split those two. Those two will never want to split. They’ve basically choreographed their entire careers around each other. Their contracts are almost like tandem deals.

The biggest reason I've been on the trade CJ bandwagon is because I was 100% certain he would bolt at his first unrestricted free agency. During occasions Dame has been out, he's proven that he could easily be the top guard on a solid team and would easily be an All-Star in the East. He would be making a name for himself and not have to sign with a Chinese shoe brand.

He's proven me wrong. For his loyalty to Portland, he's earned my loyalty.

CJ signing an extension and Ant getting traded in the future are not connected logically.

CJ could still be traded in a year or two if Ant blows up. Having him under contract for those extra years makes that more easy to do than if CJ was nearing the end of his contract. There's also the possibility of keeping all three and using a three guard lineup. Kerr insists that Russell isn't trade bait and that they plan on playing Curry, Thompson and Russell going forward once Klay returns. Ant could certainly take the same role that Klay would in that kind of lineup.

Again, I don't think his contract is un-tradable. It's just this reinforces my belief that Olshey will never split the Dame/CJ pairing. Barring a season where we win like 30 games or something.

Lovely. When Nurk comes back to his old self - and another year of growth for Zach / Ant - this team is going to be dangerous.

If Nurk returns in good shape in the 2nd half of the season and one of Zach / Ant breaks out - this team is going to be dangerous this year.

I think this is a great move overall.

Just hope we can afford Nurk, Ant and Collins when they become all stars.

82M a year for Dame/CJ is better than 89M. There's also the fact that now, there's an appropriate and realistic salary gap between what CJ will be making and what Dame will be making that matches their productions....at least for the last 3 years of CJ's deal. It's still a lot of money for the two of them

but, this sure makes it more financially awkward to add a 3rd highly paid player to the Blazers. It's Dame/CJ all the way as the 'top-2' and, IMO, that's not going to be good enough to win a title
