Our roster doesn't fit the coach (or, possibly, any coach). Dame is possibly already in decline and will be owed a shit ton. This is probably the last year you can get a decent haul for him. But no contenders have any high picks to trade. Simmons is the most talented player out there hanging that we know we can get for Dame. Olshey's gone now. And let's assume that trading Dame is the ONLY way we could get Simmons, because, let's face it, it's true. There is no fucking way in Hell any package with CJ as our best contribution will tempt Morey. So... pull the trigger?
No. Stop it. You don't trade a multi-time all-star and franchise leader/cornerstone and perhaps the most clutch player in the NBA in the last decade....for a player like Simmons. Would love to have Ben hear for a variety of other reasons....but not for Dame.
I said I was okay trading Dame, but not for Simmons. If you trade him, you better be getting equal value back. Simmons is not equal value. I would rather see the team built around Dame.
Too soon. If other moves to get a better core around Dame aren’t able to be put together and the team still sucks by the deadline, I think you have to consider trades. I personally would want to look for a better core piece than Simmons and would only make that trade with multiple picks thrown in.
How do you answer this? Dame is a consumate professional. Nobody here has the faintest idea what he wants. I will say this - if Dame indictates he no longer wants to be here, you trade him ASAP before anybody gets wind of it and you lose all leverage.
You've been looking at a team built around Dame at least since Aldridge left, and probably before. Do you like what you see?
This is how teams get stuck in everlasting purgatory. And Dame never gets a shot at a title. But hey, loyalty!
Rasta has been pushing the "Trade Dame, Keep CJ" crap for 6 months. I guess Olshey getting fired won't change that
