I did want to respond though. Here’s my truncated response that does not include bashing Blazers brass-

I think Mr Allen should do with the Blazers what he did with the Seahawks. Put a big name guy in position to run it all and Paul gets the fuck out of the way

This is where I need help. If Mr Allen backed up a brinks truck to Gregg Popovich’s front door, what kind of contractual things could keep him from becoming our head coach ***and president of basketball operations***? He gets to name his GM. The Seahawks model. Is this kind of thing possible in the NBA?

No conspiracy, I just didn't want to make things harder for myself or the forum. And that was completely my decision, the Blazers have been extremely hands off about how this forum is run.

But my response was all I personally cared about. Can we just pay Popovich a trillion dollars to be our coach and president? Other than him saying no, what could stop that from happening?

We will never know if it was him or the roster. He will most likely retire with the Spurs and I doubt he will win another title before that happens. Phil Jackson won 6 titles with MJ/Pip and 5 titles with the Lakers. Honestly his most impressive wins were with Kobe/Pau.

By my count, Phil has about 6 more championships than Pop, and he did it with 2 different iterations of the Bulls and 2 different iterations of the Lakers. Phil was able to get Dennis Rodman to produce for three years. Pop hasn't been able to get shit out of LMA.

Actually, Rodman is a great example. Pop couldn't get shit out of Rodman. Phil had him playing some of his best basketball of his career, which helped get them three more titles. That, to me, illustrates the difference between Pop and Phil. The Spurs won 5 titles because they put people around Tim Duncan, and they had sustained success. Phil was able to take players and get the best out of them.

This thread on Reddit has the text from Rodman's book which mentions Pop and the Spurs. Frankly, I don't think the Spurs win a single championship if they don't luck into Duncan.
