I lurk here more than I post here, and one reason are all of the personal attacks. They have gone way overboard. That's one reason I don't post much - no fun being called "stupid" simply because you have a different take.

Some people post simply to irritate - Mixim, OdenIsGod, etc, others seem insecure and seem to feel the need to prove how smart they are. I won't name names, but they know who they are.

What happened to spirited debate? Why can't we all just get along?

I don't really have anything of use to add as I prefer to lurk as well, I just wanted to point out how funny it is that you came out of hiding to A) complain about the personal attacks, then B) Give a personal attack.

dammit.. I was afraid to google image search anything with gay at work.. so I was hoping I could use the AG duo as a joke later. and I would have gotten away with it if it wasnt for that mettling SLYTOADYDOG!

I'm posting from work (after weeks of just reading... shhh!) to say this:

No.

It is NOT acceptable to attack another poster for being negative. It is NOT acceptable to be degrading to a poster you disagree with. It is NOT acceptable to merely state, "At least you have the protection of anonymity" as any sort of defense for statements about other posters.

The Blazers, their players, their coaches, their medical staff... all of those are the reason that this board exists and what the conversation should be based on. Positive and negative views are accepted and welcome.

Fellow posters are parts of this community that enjoy protections to be free from harrassment and degradation irrespective of their views on the Blazers, their players, their coaches, their medical staff... and even irrespective of their ability to write a complete sentence or type correctly.

Fellow posters can be disagreed with. They can be disregarded. They can be ignored. But they cannot be attacked or degraded.

I have no problem with people expressing negative opinions about certain players, the coach, or KP. What I do find objectionable is when the negativity isn't really being expressed as a reasoned opinion, but just becomes a constant, aggravating whinefest. If you don't think Nate is using his players correctly, say why you think that. Don't just jump into every single thread with a snarky comment about Nate sucking. If a player goes down with an injury and you think that KP and the medical staff should have reacted to it earlier, fine, say that, but back it up with some reasoning. It's the drama queen posts overreacting to every single negative event that are getting really old.

It seems to me that there are more of these posts here than ever before. Maybe too much influx from OregonLive?

With all of that said, yeah, I'm in favor of toning down the nastiness around here. We're all Blazers fans and we all ultimately want the best for the team. We may have differing opinions about what it takes to deliver that best, but we should be able to express our opinions respectfully.

I was referring to attacking their opinions, not calling them names... I can see how you got that impression though reading my posts. Since none of my recent posts, in fact none that I can remember, have been edited I'll just assume I've been following the rules.

Isn't that the all-you-can-eat sushi place at Pioneer Place Mall? I once earned the name "Poke-man" because of vast quantity of poke I consumed there.

Well, my doubts stem from two main reasons.

1) Allowing Martell to come back too soon and re-injure himself.

2) Allowing Greg Oden to gain so much weight (muscle) during his year off. It just didn't seem right. Now that he's thinner, he's playing much better.

3) Batum - I would like a little more insight before I form any opinions on this one. I don't feel like we know all the details.

I think most of the negativity would be gone if we don't let the mods post.

So the majority who post positively (like, get rid of Outlaw, blow up the Sheed teams and fire Whitsitt) want the people who post negatively (like, defending the present team, now or then) to shut up.

I wrote about this a couple of times years ago on the ESPN board when I was castigated for being negative (I didn't want to blow up a .600 team and go through years of purgatory waiting for the comeback). This thread today is dead so I won't write a big philosophical paragraph with the theme--

What is the definition of negativity? It's all relative. Everyone sees himself as the positive one and the opposition as the negative one
