How the hell did Neil keep his job as long as he did?
Great question. We live in a bullshit culture and Neil has a great handle on that.

If the current brass can't make the moves to have this team in contention before Lillard is gone, NO will go down in history as the guy who wasted Dame's prime.

Even nicer that they all look like they just spent the night at a poker game and have slept in their clothes......not a tie in the organization....I loved it. Joe looks like he scrambled to find a shirt with buttons on it and didn't even button the top two
Well we all got home last night about 2 AM, that might have something to do with it.

Casey and Brooke had mentioned on their pod that the bball staff works out of the PF, the business staff works out of Moda and there is hardly ever interaction between the two. I don't know what it means to integrate the two and why it would matter for on-court performance, but apparently that is a directive from the ownership for Cronin.
Casey and Brooke have a podcast?

Seems like a good guy, the type of person you'd like as your boss. Now we just have to wait and see if he's any good with managing a roster and improving the talent level. Like most, I'm rooting for him.

I think Cronin was incredibly impressive. The only comments on here that have been negative about the guy are because his humility is shocking you in contrast with Olshey's arrogance.

This guy knows the fucking league, he understands basketball and he understands the technical side of the job. He also obviously understands that this roster is only good enough to make the playoffs but not win the whole thing and he said it's his job to get them their. I expect that due to him having the interim title that he will shoot his shot before and/or at the trade deadline. I'm very encouraged that big moves will be made and we'll have a different looking roster in a few months. I also feel like this guys measured demeanor and experience means that the big moves made will make us better.

I don't know if we good enough to make playoffs but maybe playin. Right if they held the draft today we would be 8th pick.

I'm all for him making big moves and moving the needle, but given the history of this franchise with making moves (or not), I am very much in a skeptical state.

we should go with "moving the haystack"
This is longer and doesn't quite roll off the tongue but:

"Find Neil's Tiny Needle, Sprinkle It With Pepper Until It Sneezes, Grab It With Tweezers, And See If You Can Get It To Move."

Sounds like Cronin has a decent relationship with Dame & CJ, getting feedback from them both.

For the first time in seemingly forever, you come away from that press conference without feeling irritated, preached to, talked down to, or needing to take a shower.

That’s what worries me. I think it’s great that Cronin in consulting with Dame, and rightfully so given he’s the clear #1 and the face of the franchise (at least on the player side). But why the fuck is he consulting with CJ?! This leads me to believe that Cronin also feels CJ is a big part of the future and perhaps even untouchable in trade discussions. I mean you wouldn’t consult with a guy about the future of the team, team needs, roster composition, etc only to turn around and trade him a month later. This is making me very nervous.

We are going to find out real soon, I just think he will lean on Billups a lot, for what fits and doesn't fit. Im not sure Chauncey is sold on the Dame /CJ tandem?
Id be calling Mark Cuban for a straight across trade for Porzingus. Trade would help both teams.

Well we don't know what conversation they had but your right why would you consult with a guy your looking to trade. But it could be he ask CJ what team would prefer going to.

I think most people have a backwards idea of how NBA trades are usually pulled off. I don't think that the GM mindset is usually, "we have to trade Player X", unless the guy has some serious issues from a contract or health standpoint. I think it's usually the other way around in that players on other teams are identified who could be available and who fit a roster need. From there it's determined if the other team has an interest in moving that player and what kind of a package it would take to get it done. It's no secret that the Blazers could really use a good established wing player or PF. If the right player was available, it would be a matter of trying to find the right mix of Blazers players that would make the deal happen.

"We don't have any bad contracts"

Really Joe? Is there not one 6'3 shooting guard owed 100M over the next 3 years?
Gms are never going to be honest about stuff like that. Bad for negotiations.

Never thought of that, so good point. Bold move though if true.

I also think it might have been as simple as Cronin talking to CJ trying to be sure that the right move is to split him and Dame up. Given CJ's long tenure with the club, Joe could have just been being thorough before embarking on getting some value for CJ by trading him.

Dame & CJ probably had as many question direct questions of Cronin.
I would hesitate you ask how do you guys feel about one of ya being traded? he it first hand quick. Im sure they would say hey its a business and we all have our jobs do to.
