Who was the last player to blow up in year 4 or 5 after getting as much playing time as Ant the prior years?

That's a really bad example, as Reggie was neither undersized nor bad at defense.

In reality, there are very few undersized score-first guards who are bad at defense in the hall, and I think there's a reason for that. Those that are were generally transcendent offensive talents, like Iverson or Archibald. It's generally not a desirable profile...except maybe off the bench.

    Reggie was 6'7......

Shaq wasn't slow at all.... I mean, yeah maybe when he was older.... but not when he was younger. Not at all.

I think guys are being way to hard on Simons.

this talk that he is what he is and won’t improve is silly to me.

he is still young. He add muscle in the off-season. His defense can improve, especially as he gets stronger. Defense is more effort that anything. This is only his second season as a full time starter.

When people say he is offense first, etc, on this team, he definitely will be, he is the best scorer we have currently.

it’s too early to pull the plug on him as a finished product imo

Thanks Nate Jones for an extremely obvious statement. But it is missing the qualifier of “right now.”

Agreed....when is 6'7" as a shooting guard undersized? That is Drexler height although Clyde probably had 25+ pounds on Reggie.

nate 'goodwin agency' jones has been on a not-so-subtle 'trade ant to a team that will make him the main guy' crusade since dame asked out. funny how he didn't make a peep about it before that.

I hope that starts picking up steam around the League that Simons is a star trapped in Portland. Please hype him up Nate, then we will get REAL value for him. I actually think we will at the Deadline or next off-season at the latest.

We can dream and hope for it. Scoot and Shaedon are obviously the back court that makes sense it would be perfect if we could get real value back for Ant that fits the needs of our future roster.

I don't mind the idea of trading ant.

but the way nate talks about it, it's seemingly this decision that HAS to be made—ant's rock to scoot's hard place.

there's very little pressure on moving one or the other rn, imo.

Right now there's very little pressure to do anything besides get all of these guys playing time, figure out who fits together and get value on the trade market at some point for the guys that don't fit.

I actually quite like the construction of our roster right now. The only two obvious non-fits are Brogdon and Grant due to age. We already have the backcourt locked up, and the starting C spot is no longer the highest priority.

Now it’s all about churning young talent at the forward position to see who fits. Maybe Brogdon can bring back a rookie like Brown and we can get four guys to fight for forward minutes to make Grant more expendable by the deadline.

Outside of that, I agree, very little pressure to do anything else. Ant doesn’t need to be traded unless there’s star-level offers for him. Thybulle doesn’t need to be traded unless Camara shows he’s a starting-level SF.

He is still the deadliest shooter on this team.

One of the deadliest shooters in the NBA--he'll prove it by the end of the season.

Curry. Dame. Trae. KD. I'm struggling to think of many other guys who are a threat to shoot from anywhere past half court with the ball in his hands.
