Fantastic. I mean, just epic. Split a Chicago-style with my brother and a pitcher of Sam Adams on Saturday night. Delicious. Ended up at the hotel bar at the Hyatt simply because we were out until 4am at Miller's Pub on Thursday, worked Friday, and then were out at Ditka's and then the Purple Pig until 3am Friday night before heading to Wrigley Saturday morning.

Oh, look who still wants to be involved in the drama. How cute.

Shouldn't you post something about my 'vegan restaurant' now?

Can't bring myself to visit Ditka's again. Had to go once because it's Ditka. Can't ever go again (cuz it's Ditka).

The Hyatt is actually pretty nice there. I've hung out in the bar a few times, since that's one of the usual places we stay. Hoping my sister-in-law gets married soon, so we can get another visit to Chicago in. Now that all of the other friends and family have left Chicago, we have little reason to go back (except for fun, but we usually end up going wherever our family/friends live, so I can't think of any other reason we'll end up in Chicago any time soon).

Why aren't there any legitimate Chicago-style pizza joints in the Portland area? Or, is there one, and I just don't know about it?

Hell, even Seattle has Delfino's near the UW campus, and it's just amazing.

I've yet to find pizza that I like as much as papa murphy's.

We had Murphy's last night. The thin crust.

Have a Giordano's butter-crust deep dish with the sauce on top next time you're in Chicago. I think you'll be swayed.

I've only been to Chicago once, and it was just a short trip. Didn't really get to get out and explore the city. Maybe one day :sigh:

I haven't been back since I as a kid but this place seemed like deep dish pizza to me at the time.

WTF? This isn't even funny, but please tell me you're joking?

I am a big fan of Pizzacato, Ken's, Apizzascholls (they guy is the pizza nazi, but there's no arguing with the pizza), etc. Just found a new joint I really like, but can't remember the name (it's new, and there's a related pizza joint up in Seattle under the same name, too).

Gallucci's is really good. Still there. But it's not Chicago deep-dish.

What about Abby's? Anyone like Abby's? I think they make excellent pizza, though (sigh), still not Chicago deep-dish.

I have a soft spot for their cracker crust... I was raised in Klamath Falls, and Abby's was the only pizza place (other than Pizza Caboose) in town. We still hit up Abby's on any trips to Southern Oregon.

Apizzascholls is totally overrated; they use the same pepperoni as Stark Street!

Giovanni's in Beaverton is pretty good, and I used to love Silver Dollar before it went belly up.

Gino's East, Pizzeria Uno and Lou Malnati's were my favorite when there

They've changed the pepperoni a couple of times. My brother's ex-father-in-law was/is the supplier there for a bunch of things. Not sure what it's like now, but the3 times or so I've been to Apizzascholls, it's been outstanding. But the idea of first-come seating (and no reservations) is a bitch.

I'll be at our cabin at Lake of the Woods in three weeks. Maybe a trip to K-Falls for Abby's would be worth the 25 mile drive?

We walked near Geno's East while heading to Ditka's for dinner. It's right off of Michigan about a half-block down Superior, if memory serves.

The Taste of Chicago was awesome on Friday night, though. Those of you who are on Facebook with me can check out some of the food in my brother's photos.

Was Silver Dollar the place on NW 23rd?

Yeah. Best-known for their serving minors. I started going in there at 19 and they never ID'd me until after I was 21.

I watched the Oden/Durant lottery there while working up on NW 23rd one day. I loved it because it was the only true dive up there that actually didn't smell.
