I think am the one against 99 on this board about pot. Is there anyone else on this board that has had impaired pot users working for them? By impaired, I mean failing to be able to do their job?
Nobody's suing Johnson. Johnson hasn't ordered the bombing of Syria and Libya. He's got executive experience and was quite successful. His VP was governor of a blue state.
I am a project manager and fully 3/4 of the people that work under me smoke pot. They don't miss work, they don't miss deadlines and they do good work. When they get shit-faced the night before they are hungover and their productivity nosedives or they call in sick. edit: These are not "stoners." My feeling is that drug abusers and alcohol abusers are similarly unreliable.
Ah! I see, it is your norm. I only had a 2 or 3 at a time out of about 270. Well let me restate that, 2 or 3 at a time that I became aware of at anyone time.
I didn't know they smoked pot until it was legalized. I'm sure you'd be shocked how many people actually use.
It's nice to see Marazul agree with the Obama administration that pot is bad and should remain illegal.
Yes but when the alcohol abuser become unreliable you very well maybe able to get them to go through rehabilitation. Never was able to do that successfully with a pot user.
Probably not. My nose works quite well. But then I don't smoke it. You would be surprise to find out how apparent it is on people that do.
Full disclosure. I smoked pot for about 5 years. I quit about 35 years ago. I started as a weekend recreational smoker, last couple of years, a daily user. The two main reasons I quit were. 1) Smoking pot daily was affecting my job performance. I was still able to do my job, but, not at the same high level before I started to smoke pot. 2) Smoking pot DID AFFECT MY HEALTH. I was starting to have health problems that were related to smoking pot. It took years after quitting, but my good health has returned to its former self. I have no doubt that smoking pot CAN AFFECT YOUR HEALTH, and DID AFFECT MY HEALTH. Pot smoke contains harmful chemicals that can be absorbed when inhaled. The more pot you smoke, the greater the odds that it may cause problems. Results vary by the person. My conclusions from personal use I do not believe anyone should go to jail for smoking pot. I am a strong believer in personal freedoms. BUT, I do not like the lies people tell themselves to justify smoking pot, such as it is harmless to smoke pot, or, that it does not alter their performance. I also did a fair amount of alcohol drinking over the years, which did not affect my health, or my job performance the next day. I am not even going into how pot smoking damaged my memory.
Probably more than 99. People who can't do the job, for whatever reason, need to be shown the door. If they can do the job, it makes no difference what substances they use. barfo
Excellent post sir! Johnson's position is tantamount to giving a green light to pot use. Nothing suggests this is valid position.
I have my own reasons for hating pot. My dad couldn't keep a job for 2 continuous months when I was a kid. I don't think potheads have any idea how stupid they are. You just get dumber and dumber and dumber. I worked with a guy who would go out to his truck at 9am and get high and then come back to work. I'd see him crawling around under a car on a cheap floor jack with no jackstands. One day my car broke down on a Friday evening and he offered me a ride home. It was 110 so we had to keep the windows up. It was only surface streets so I was only mildly scared to death but I got home safely. Oh and it smells horrific. I also must say that alcohol, cigarettes and marijuana should all be legal but I don't like any of them. To me it should be legal but kids growing up should be scared to death of it.
I can play basketball. I can shoot and pass and dribble and even lumber back and forth over midcourt. I shouldn't be in the NBA. If Joe Blow can smoke weed every night and get himself together just enough to make it through the next day as your employee you can keep him if you want. The only thing that would get me to keep a pothead as an employee is if I couldn't find someone else.
You can't do the job. Have high standards, demand that they be exceeded. What the employee smokes, who he sleeps with, or who she votes for is none of my business as long as it does not affect my business. barfo
It's like everything has to be black and white. Either everyone has AK 47s or nothing. Abortion has to be legal or illegal. If it is legal kill the fetus whenever you want how many times you want. If it is illegal and you get raped, too bad you can't get one. We can all buy insanely fast cars if we can afford them. Technically anyone can drive one if they have a license. Trust me, you don't want my gramma driving something like that. There are so many things we allow in society now that aren't good, being legal shouldn't be encouragement.
Good, I'll send any troubled employees to you and you can pay them while you try to fix them. I guess I'm not as much of a bleeding heart liberal as you. barfo
