Trump Now Insists Biden Must 'Prove' He Won 80 Million Votes To Enter The White House (yahoo.com) If I was Joe I would ignore him and bait him to rant.
Agreed. If he (Biden) is asked about something Trump says, he should respond with "well, former President XXXXX" or "ex President XXXXX"
"Like every American, the President Reject is entitled to his opinions, that's what the first amendment is all about, now for some reasonable, scientific based policies..."
“Loser” is some shape or form is an absolute requirement when referring to the 2 year old currently squatting in The People’s House. It’s certainly the most accurate description......
Russia's Putin congratulates Biden on winning U.S. election Tue, December 15, 2020, 3:51 AM EST MOSCOW (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday congratulated Joe Biden on winning the U.S. presidential election after weeks of holding out. Putin's message to Biden came a day after the Electoral College confirmed Biden as the nation’s next president, ratifying his November victory in an authoritative state-by-state repudiation of President Donald Trump’s refusal to concede that he had lost. The Kremlin had said earlier that the Russian president would hold off on congratulating Biden until the winner was officially confirmed. “We are just waiting for the end of the internal political confrontation,” Putin said last month, referring to numerous Republican challenges to the vote count. In his message, Putin wished Biden “every success," according to a Kremlin statement Tuesday, and expressed confidence that “Russia and the U.S., which bear special responsibility for global security and stability can, despite the differences, really contribute to solving many problems and challenges that the world is currently facing.
It's up to the Democrats to make sure Joe Biden the politician is not Joe Biden the president. Sounds strange, but what I mean is they need to get him to reverse course on a number of issues, including: - Removing the Electoral College (Biden and Bloomberg were the only D-candidates directly opposed to this), essentially his establishmentarianism in the face of growing progressivism in the country and his party - Not making cuts to social security, medicare, medicaid (in years past Biden repeatedly suggested he wants to but has been quiet on the campaign trail about it) - War (Biden was against the 1991 Persian Gulf War, but now regrets not supporting it; supported 1999 war in Serbia; voted for the Iraq war and against the surge in 2007; arguably supported war in Libya in 2011) - Being "tough on crime" (his 1994 crime law negatively affected minorities; the Comprehensive Control act of 1984 has led to mass civil asset forfeiture, a major issue with policing in the USA currently; Anti-Drug Abuse Acts of 1986 and 1988 made drug crimes more harshly punished, again disproportionally affecting minorities) (note: he has expressed regrets on this topic) - Legalization (Biden has repeatedly called marijuana a 'gateway drug' which is something that's been debunked but he has persisted with) - Supporting the death penalty I don't think he's under some progressive mandate but the election was largely a repudiation of run-amok Republicans and sticking to centrist positions, like Obama did, will lose his momentum, supposing Georgia's runoff goes to the Democrats. If not he will need to sign loads of executive orders right away rather than wait six years like BO.
Mayor Pete in the cabinet. https://www.cnn.com/2020/12/15/politics/pete-buttigieg-transportation-secretary/index.html I have to admit I like that a lot, he is one of the most common-sense thinkers in the current political world - his focus on pragmatic progress is something a lot of people will like, I suspect.
pointing out the absolutely dangerous, destructive, and anti-democratic nature of the electoral college the Senate has the same issues. The 26 least populous states generate a majority of the Senate, but only represent 17% of the US population
Not only is this not a thing a President can do, it's not really even theoretically possible even if every single Democrat were 100% committed to it. It requires a Constitutional amendment, which entails getting two-thirds of every state legislature to ratify. No state that benefits from the Electoral College, which is basically every smaller state, many of them Republican majority, is going to do that. The Senate is equally undemocratic, but good luck abolishing that, too. I'd love to get rid of both. I understand being aspirational, but I think tethering Biden to actually achievable goals is a much better idea. As for the Electoral College, this is a much more realistic end run around it, not requiring a Constitutional amendment.
Of course you're correct. President Biden cannot fix the issues with the EC or the Senate with a pen stroke. The NPVIC is a good workaround. Ranked voting could also help. Removing is probably too strong a word to have used. Circumventing?
It's mostly up to the states at this point but I'd certainly like for Biden to advocate for it, use the bully pulpit of his office. And I agree, ranked voting would be a great thing for states to adopt. Ranked voting or run-off elections.
