Our roster has a salary cap. Okay, I get it. Paul's money is only so useful when it comes to players.

There is no salary cap for staff and front office.

It seems to me, having a great coach and a solid staff is just as important as having good players. Why has Paul never thrown a disgusting amount of money at a great coach?

I want Brad Stevens. I don't care what it costs. Find out what his number is and give it to him. That guy has made so many mediocre players look serviceable, and I want that in Portland.

Paul doesn't want a strong willed GM. He likes low key kiss asses. It is a turn on to him for some reason. Probably why they went through 3 GM's in 3 years.

Paul says Neil Olshey has the golden gut.

Lol you think Olshey is a kiss ass. That’s cute.

Don't we have that in Portland? Stotts is not the problem. He's reigning Coach of the Month. And Brad Stevens is overrated. Just got blown out at home on national TV by team with 4 new players just getting to know each other. How many championships has Stevens won? At any level. Stotts has an NBA championship ring.

Selective bias at it's best.

Just for shits and giggles, what did we lose to tonight? I'm really intrigued.

Solid post though.

I agree completely...

We have one of the richest owners in sports, why can’t he buy one of the best front offices. It’s not like there’s a salary cap or any financial restrictions. Throw 10+ mil at Danny Ainge, general managers can resign to switch franchises, worst case he breaks his current contract and has to pay back some money, im sure Allen could cover any losses in his new deal. Seems to me there are about 4-5 gm that are superior to the rest, why we don’t have one with Allen owning the team baffles me...I mean we had Cho for fucks sake.

The Accidental Billionaire isn't known for business savvy.

Luc Longley has 3 more than Karl Malone, Charles Barkley and Elgin Baylor. What's your point?

Is Tyron Lue a better coach than Jerry Sloan?

Please tell me why he'd leave Boston. He's probably at his dream job already.

Never change, @KingSpeed

Forget Brad Stevens. There are other guys in the NBA who is vastly underrated like Snyder from last night, or Eric Spoelstra.

Terri still isn't the problem, though. It's this damn roster. Getting blue in the face bitching about Neil.

Then take a moment, chill out and breathe.....

Because we are getting red in the face reading your regurgitation of your opinion over and over. ;)

What about the Spurs shooting coach?
Elite level big man coach\ex player?
A smart, hard working, defensive minded assistant coach (like Tom Thibodeau was in Boston) ?

I like Olshey, Stotts and Paul Allen.....I like the Blazers....I'm not having meltdowns because we're not winning a championship this season..find something to enjoy....if you love Brad Stevens...you should just cheer for the Celtics...I'm a Beavers fan too....if I wanted big market team to cheer for I'd follow the Ducks...kingspeed is a Blazers fan..I respect that...lots and lots of armchair GMs around this place who get worked up every season and have scapegoat hunts....nothing new...meltdown folks have lots of support....different strokes for different folks and so on and so on and Scooby dooby dooby...my wife and I cheer on the local high school basketball team that has no chance of beating the big schools year after year but they play their hearts out....we cheer.

That's one thing I've never understood about Paul either. It wouldn't take a ton of money to have hired somebody like Jerry West as an advisor. Hes the brightest mind in the business. But it's a mute point now.

What year did Allen "rebuy" the Moda Center? I think it was about 10 years ago. Since then he seems to be treating the team a lot more like a business and a lot less like a hobby he just throws money at.

Wasn’t that Shooby Dooby dooby??? Not to nitpick but was just trying to raise the intellectual level of this thread up a few notches..........

Guys like Jerry West usually go for big market opportunities...you hire guys who want the challenge of a small market team.

In the summer of 2016, he signed the following contracts.

CJ- 106 mil
AC- 75 mil
ET- 70 mil
MH- 42 mil
ML- 41 mil

And he paid Varejao nearly 14 mil just for a single draft pick that became Swanigan.

That's a commitment to pay nearly 350 mil in just contracts alone that he made in a period of months. This is a year after committing to 130 mil for Dame.

Our revenues are consistently among the bottom of the league. If he is running this like a business, it's not really a good one.

Given how much money most billionaire make in other ventures.... are sports teams really that profitable? Even though they are license to print money they have massive overhead. I always figured owners bought teams because they can be passionate about it and support their local franchises. Also, sports helps passify the masses and stops us from chopping their heads off due to civil unrest. So that may be the biggest reason.

Billionaires need losses for tax write offs is my understanding...Paul Allen makes interest on his investments that probably in a couple of weeks cover his Blazers investment..he doesn't give a shit about the luxury tax if it's worth it to win...and he's said that many times..cracks me up how fans worry about the Blazer's budget
