We will be doing this around 4:00. Feel free to add things you would like us to cover.

  • Review the trades for Hood/Skal
  • Look at potential buy-out candidates
  • See who made the best improvements
  • Grade Neil's moves
  • Look at next year's expiring deals
We'll do it around 4:00 and it should be up later this evening.

How can you have a "Trade Deadline Recap" at 4 pm on the trade deadline before it is over? Doesn't the actual ending time happen tomorrow at 3pm eastern time?

Ask @TorturedBlazerFan I don't own a calendar.

What is Portland looking for in the Buyout Market? A big...Morris, Kanter? Another wing in McLemore?

You guys should have different people from the forum guest on your podcasts

No. No it's not. I don't have a secret account under some nerd name. I didn't pay some short balding guy to play him at forum events.

I don't even want to be on your show anyway

I am going to go look at my shoe collection...I mean my dungeons and dragons set

Did I do that right?

@TBpup
I've been trying to figure out Olshey's moves this deadline. On the surface, it seems completely illogical. We have a full rotation and we traded 3 guys who don't play for 1 guy that is around as good as players he'll be taking minutes from, and another who has a lot of potential, and probably deserves minutes but won't get them. We now have a superstar, 2 stars, 10 good players, and a player who's not ready but has huge upside (Simons). We clearly needed to trade several of our good players for a third star.

Why did we do that? The only reason I can guess is that Olshey still thinks we're in the "asset acquisition phase" (i.e. we suck). Of course, an alternate theory is that Olshey "has no balls" as suggested by the thread of the same name.

Pisses me off that Neil had 3 potential blockbusters and went 0-3....what else is new

Ok Your assessment of the team seems to differ from mine at least in Semantics. I think we have a super star in Dame. An Above Average to Good Starting SG. A very solid Center with Promise. Then we have a few young wild cards, Id put Zach, Trent, Simons and Layman in that group. A few guys who are decent role / bench players Moe, Aminu, Meyers, Seth, I guess ET is in this group.

The Hood pickup well I think he fits in nicely with the role / bench player group, and Skal Im not sure where he fits if at all.

The problem the Blazers have is they really need starting quality / consistent Forwards they could be “role players” but they have to be fairly consistent on both sides of the ball.

Currently constructed the Blazers only real hope is that Zach and Layman turn into those guys, Im sorry but I think for Aminu and Moe that ship has sailed, their both good at times and could have a role on good teams but the Blazers need more out of their forwards than either of them can consistently give. When I say hope I mean championship aspirations.

I agree with your conclusion lets trade all that role player / depth for a star or at the least a consistently good legit starter, I just dont think that deal was actually going to happen, the only guys that fit that mold that were moved were Harris and Mirotic - They didnt have what it took to get Harris, I am sort of surprised they didnt go after Mirotic harder.

I think why I am not terribly upset about the trade deadline stuff is that what happened for the Blazers is about what I expected.

I wanted AD (of course who didnt), I just knew that deal wasnt going to happen.

We need an "Member Content" section since we have so many people producing stuff now.

@BonesJones We can do a third sub forum labled Member Content so we would have the main page, OT, and the new sub section for member content like Blazersland, TrueBlazerFan, @TBpup and @South East for their podcast, etc.

But, wouldnt that take away from the main page? Would people go to a third section?

I think you should make threads in the main forum like you normally do and then update your signatures to include a brief synopsis and link them. You guys post a lot so people would see them in other threads.

Where was it stated that he had 3 potential blockbusters?

I heard his interview where he said he started the morning with 3 potential trades lined up.
- 1rst had a 85% chance (he said it was the Caleb/Skal trade)
- 2nd was a 50/50 chance
- 3rd has a 25% chance, but also required taking on substantial salary

Not that my input is neccessary but I like the idea of having a post in the "Important Posts Section" That is for User Content Creations. They can peddle their wares, and post updates. What I don't like is that things may not be seen as easily as they if they just make a new thread.

A recording played in the above podcast. Olshey said he had three big trades lined up that didn't get done.

It doesn't sound like you disagree with me in any meaningful way. We need to convert several good players in a very good player or two.
