What is the latest with Mike Miller?

Will he be waived, traded, or kept. He turns 36 at the all star break. I was reading that he wanted to come to Portland because he thought there might be playing time. I just assumed he would already be gone by now.

He shot poorly last year but I was shocked to see how well he played the year before. In Memphis he played all 82 games and shot 46% from 3 pt range (107-233) playing 20 minutes a game. Could we actually keep him?
 
I assume trade bait with Kaman through the season. Probably wont play but there will be teams out there looking for vets like them to mentor or play a role. I assume the right offer just has to be made.
 
More likely he will play a role like kaman. Right we don't know the plan for the season. We all can assume what they think the plan is but we won't be for sure until the season starts.
 
This will be interesting to follow. What if Aminu and Harkless really struggle on offense? And what happens if Miller comes in and hits a bunch of threes and makes some nice assists? How could Stotts resist playing him? If that were to happen I could see the GM and Coach at odds over this.

Yea that could happen don't be suprise if he the back up 3 at the start of the season for the reason that stotts trust veterans and at the beginning of the season there going out to win games and develope in practices but we just don't know what there plans are right now
 
He and Kaman add up to $8m. I suspect that there'll be a few teams at the deadline that are looking to cut bait on a player that doesn't fit their team. Or else a team that thinks they're on the cusp of contending and need a reserve like Miller to round out their PO rotation. Clips and Rockets are the cusp-contenders that immediately spring to mind, that might need a back-up SF.

I would not either. I kind of understand it if Dekker turns out to be as good as some think he will be. But I just don't think he will.
 
If we want Terrance Jones just sign him next summer. No need to give away an asset now. Rockets let their free agents walk.

I suspect Miller will be bought out by the end of preseason at the latest. Think we'd rather use the roster spot on a Montero or Alexander type of prospect. Nothing wrong with keeping Miller in camp and preseason though.

Jones is just contract filler (on an expiring deal) in order for us to get Dekker. I'm sure HOU is saying "I'm not giving up Dekker for Miller, no way." So it's really Plum for Dek, Miller for Jones.
I don't know anything about Dekker, but I remember several people really wanting him in the draft, and since SF is our weakest spot it seemed like it might be a good deal? Gives us a SF that fits our timeline, gives HOU a C that can play when Howard has a stubbed toe.

They don't know jack. Dekker is likely going to be a career bench player. At his 'peak' potential, he maybe as good as Mike Miller at his peak (starter, but not a difference maker). I would much rather hang onto Plumlee.

Plumlee is a Center who can record many double doubles if he's starting and healthy, Dekker is a question mark rookie who reminds me i'm in a mood for a sandwich.
I'll hang on to Plumlee based on market value and NBA experience .

I think the 8 mil is well spent here for a big man and shooting coach that can enter a game in an emergency. Mike Miller is a skilled shooter, Kaman is a smart post player..we've got a dozen guys that can benefit from their experience on the practice court.

That's cool. As I said, I only suggested it because I recalled people being high on Dekker. I'm in no rush to get rid of Plumlee - I think he could be a long-term piece for us. But I also think it could be prudent to trade him for a good starting SF. Sounds like that's not Dekker, though.

We're so bad, we need a shooter/scorer, even with a low percentage. Miller is our Juan "The Mahn" Dixon.

Doubt they'd go for Davis? And due to restrictions I can't run the revised trade to see if it works financially, but I think it'd be Davis for Dekker/McDaniels. And Neil'd probably get laughed at.
I'd definitely prefer to keep Plumlee and trade Davis, but Plumlee has got to have way more trade value. I'm also not sold on Aminu, but hoping that he sells me as we get into the season - but for now I'd include him, Davis, and Henderson as my "most willing to trade for a high-upside SF". But I still think Plumlee/Vonleh/Leonard are the most valuable trade assets...I'm just not willing to include them in trades ATM.

Who are some high-upside SFs (or SGs) that we should target? I'm getting the impression that now that the draft is over nobody is high on Dekker anymore.

I'm also hoping that Harkless makes the quest for a SF unnecessary, but until that happens that's the position I think we need to focus on.

I was never high on Dekker. Unathletic. Not a defender. Seems like a taller, less athletic Pat C.
I actually am pretty high on Aminu and I think we should develop him. He will be our best OTB defender. He played great against HOU, and while being pretty young has tons of upside. I know it's just a highlight reel but I love what I see. Especially defensively:

 
It would be hard to keep Miller on the bench considering he's our best SF, and our only consistent 3pt shooter after Leonard on the roster currently.

Sorry, but Leonard doesn't have the minutes to be considered a consistent 3pt threat anymore than Dame is a consistent 3pt threat.
Dame had a bad second half of the season, but what is his 3pt % for his career?
Dame is one of our few 3pt threats.
 
Henderson is a really good 3 pt shooter from the corners only, Vonleh shoots the 3 and CJ should make some 3s..after that Miller shoot help improve Harkless, Aminu, Frazier, Pressy's and Connaughton's range and accuracy. Crabbe should make his share of 3s as well..it's a work in progress for sure but that's where Miller will have some value. He'll be in the end of the games when we're down a bucket at crunch time.
