Hassan Whiteside ‏@youngwhiteside
If you haven't learned anything from watching the playoffs, it's clear how important the center position is.#NBAPlayoffs

But I thought the C position was retired because it was no longer important to basketball?

All thing has to include 2 knee injuries. Why would Portland want to go through this AGAIN?

He's had no major knee injuries. A sprained MCL is nothing.

On March 5, 2011, Whiteside had surgery to repair a partially torn tendon in his left knee, which sidelined him for the rest of the season.

Would you take Biyombo over Ezeli and Whiteside?

I'm giving this serious thought. Biz @ 15 mil or Whiteside and his knees @ 25 mil.

Hm. Getting Biz gives us like 15 more mil of space to play with for trades/FA.

Speaking of injury prone centers.... DMo is a RFA as well.

Ezeli yes. Whiteside no.

Says here He's not getting surgery

Heat's Hassan Whiteside: Won't undergo surgery

Whiteside (knee) won't undergo surgery on his sprained right MCL in the offseason, Shandel Richardson of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Whiteside sustained the injury midway through the Heat's second-round series against the Raptors and missed the final four games. He still remains without a firm timetable, but with the season now over, Whiteside won't face any pressure to return before a given date. Avoiding surgery is certainly a benefit, though, as Whiteside, an unrestricted free agent, enters the offseason seeking his first major NBA payday

This said, I'm super wary of him now.

I know hes not getting surgery from this knee injury. But he did get knee surgery in 2011.

I think you've seen the benefit of the Biz, and it is pretty large on one end of the floor.

You have also seen the benefit of Adams, Kanter and Ibaka and it is pretty large on the other end of the floor, as well as ok on the defensive side. For me, I'd rather have a guy that can take pressure off our guards by being able to score down low.

He's already had surgery on his knee back in 2011. Now an injury, even if not serious enough for surgery, on his other knee. No thank you

Ezeli yes. Whiteside no.

I agree with this. Although I think there can be a argument made for Biyombo over Whiteside too. I like his motor.
We are talking about 1 inch difference in terms of reach. But who jumps better?

The most we could pay Whiteside is $21M

Um what?

Whiteside. My understanding, reiterated in recent days, is if all things are equal financially, Whiteside wants to re-sign with Miami. He likes living here and likes the organization.

But we’ve repeatedly heard the Heat’s preference is persuading him to sign under the max (projected to be $21.6 million next season) by selling him on the lack of state income tax, his comfort level here, the roster flexibility created by him taking a bit less; and that Miami can offer 7.5 percent annual raises off the first year salary (compared with 4.5 percent elsewhere). That means a four-year deal starting at $20.7 million with Miami would equal a four-year deal starting at $21.6 million elsewhere.

But if Miami offers, say, $2 million less per year than max offers elsewhere, what would Whiteside do? That decision hasn’t been made and it won’t be an easy one.

No State Income tax will mitigate some of that for the home games. If Bosh can't come back, can Neil convince him that Portland is better than Miami with a 36 year old Wade?

The way that I like to say it is that the city of Miami has a lot of retirees. Whiteside knows this because many of them play for the Heat.... :)

Wade is over the hill.

Deng is a shell of himself.

They have zero depth.

What is the incentive to stay?

What's the difference between Portland and Miami? It's more or less the same...

You never turn your back on your teammate, but at the same time you’re not always in a position where you can grab somebody’s hand and walk them through every step of the way,” Dwyane Wade said. “Sometimes you have to live with your decisions that you make. I didn’t see what happened, but obviously it was enough for him to get ejected and whatever decision he makes with that, he has to live with that. Whatever consequences come with it, he has to deal with it. The biggest thing from him is you hope he just learns from it. You know, we said that last year.

Wade continued. “The one thing with Hassan is, sometimes he goes quiet and he goes to himself a lot. As his teammates, sometimes it’s hard to know what he’s thinking. At the end of the day, we’re all here together. We’re all supposed to be in here for one common goal and we’re all trying to reach that goal together, but sometimes we don’t know what he’s thinking
.
You can always help a guy or try to give some advice,” Bosh said. “People have given me advice over my career. But eventually I have to take that last step forward and really do that. I think the next step for him is learning about reputation. Unfortunately, he’s taken a step back.

There were reports when Whiteside was with the Kings that veterans tried to help him and he just would not put in the work. I am not sure that handing 100 million to someone with motivation problems is a wise idea.
