Trade Suggestion: CJ for Jabari Parker?

There could be more to it than that, but does a trade with those two as the centerpieces make sense?

I'm not actually a fan of Parker (he's somewhere between a Rich Man's Beasley and a Poor Man's Melo) but I think it would balance both teams out a bit better. And CJ makes a lot of sense for the Bucks - they don't need a trad. PG because Giannis is being groomed as a point forward, but they do need shooting.

Thoughts? I think the trade might be kind of fair - two players known for their scoring but not much else.
 
Why do they need CJ when they already have Middleton? If we are looking at playmaking 4s, we should be hot after Aaron Gordon. He's a guy horribly miscast as a 3.

CJ + Noah + Plums etc for Vucevic and Gordon.

Something like that would be beneficial for both teams.
 
With CJ’s PPP contract extension, and Parker with a year remaining on his rookie contract, it would be next to impossible to make this trade work under the CBA rules.

D'oh! Forgot Middleton. In my defense, he hasn't played yet this year.

Okay, that makes it kind of moot. EXCEPT, they could play them TOGETHER and they would be kind of deadly. After all, their current PG is Delly, and he's nobody's idea of an ideal NBA starter.

They might want to do it if they could include Monroe.

Except as part of a bigger trade, particularly if it involved Monroe.
 
Are you fucking serious right now?

I love jabari parker, but no way you trade CJ for him or for him and pieces.

When you make trades you want to be the guy adding stuff to obtain the better player.

Cj and something for demarcus cousins or paul george are some of the only deals you consider.

How does adding a 6'8" SF help balance our roster? Don't we already have Maurice Harkless, Al-Farouq Aminu (whose best position is SF), Evan Turner and Allen Crabbe who can all play SF?

Parker isn't much better than Mo Harkless. Sure he scores more, but he also shoots a lot more. Harkless shoots better from 3FG (.380 vs. .367) and much better from 2FG (.570 vs. .475).

Why would we give up our second best player for someone who is only marginally better than the SF we already have? And, if we did get Parker, what would we do with Harkless?

Vucevic is no good. He's like a poor man's Enes Kanter. Or a runty Boban Marjanovic. And Gordon seems to have stalled in a very Ed Davis-like fashion.

So if you love Jabari Parker, is there even a word for your feelings towards CJ?

1. Parker is a lot younger than Harkless, and certainly further along than Harkless at the same age.
2. I think Parker is actually better suited as a smallball 4. Isn't that how he's being played? You could play him and Harkless or Aminu (or even all three) together.
 
If Parker was a really good defensive player, I'd be interested. As it stands right now, though, he's a less efficient scorer and a significantly worse play-maker for others than McCollum while not helping Portland where they most need help--on defense. He's young and has plenty of potential, but most of that potential lies on the offensive end, in my opinion. He currently doesn't look ideally suited to be a great defender on the wing or against power forwards.
 
Part of my motivation is that we are currently paying Crabbe and Turner ridiculous $ for reduced roles. Trading CJ will also expand their roles, and will bring about a defensive improvement because both are (arguably far) better defenders than CJ.

Currently both are pretty much untradeable. (My other idea is if Boston really decides it has to have Turner back, we could maybe get Amir Johnson in return. But that would require quite an about-face from Boston, because if they wanted Turner at that price they could've had him.)

I can differentiate my feelings towards players to realize we would be fucking morons to trade cj for a jabari parker type deal.
 
WE CANT TRADE CJ because of the poison pill and a number of other reasons like being PLAYER 1B Jabari is nice and all but cmon now

these trade scenarios are getting old quick
 
I'm not automatically opposed to trading CJ for the right player in the right deal, but Parker doesn't seem like a very good target. As @Minstrel mentioned above, what does Parker add that addresses this team's biggest weakness, that also fill the gap that would be left by CJ.

To clarify, I'd certainly be interested in Gordon, but would hope he could be had cheaper than CJ. I think CJ for Ibaka would be more fair (although (a) only if Ibaka was on a longer contract, and (b) I'd still hope for more for CJ), and the Magic certainly seem to like Ibaka more than Gordon.

Playing Parker at the 4 would further kill our already week rebounding. Him, and Harkless are both slightly below average rebounders for starting SFs. He would be/is WAY below average for a starting PF.

No thanks. I don't want to give up our second best player for a guy who will make our rebounding worse.

Parker wouldn't be a bad 3rd option (at SF), but by trading C.J., he would have to be our 2nd option, and he's simply not that good.

Most likely, but right now, he needs to improve quite a bit offensively just to match McCollum and in the meantime, he isn't beneficial on the defensive end. So he's a downgrade now and there's not a lot of reason to believe he'll ever be a significant upgrade since he's starting pretty far behind McCollum.
 
Ok not impossible but we need some reasonable sort of likelihood to consider, giving up all-star caliber talent on a reasonable deal for what? a high draft pick from 3 years ago at a different position?

I see Parker as a different kind of scorer than CJ. He's got post moves, but he can also shoot. CJ is great, but he treads on the toes of Lillard, Crabbe and Turner, all of whom are being paid a king's ransom. So Parker is similarly flawed (both are poor defenders) but we don't have the kind of talent+cost logjam at 3/4 as we do at guard. Parker is also significantly younger than CJ.

Right. Isn't that what happens in trades most of the time? Two teams are overstocked at one position and understocked at the other and swap?

He's 21 RIGHT NOW. When CJ was 21 he was sitting out his final year at Lehigh with a broken foot.

Yes. If he weren't 21 right now, we wouldn't even be discussing this. I was assuming significant growth.

There are teams out there that can facilitate a trade involving a poison pill provision situation. The Nuggets have about $19M in cap space and the Nets have around $18M. The Sixers, Jazz and Suns all have in the $13-$14M range of available cap space. It would take moving a combination of players and probably three teams getting involved, but it's hardly an impossible situation to come up with trades for CJ that would work. Not saying that I'm advocating it, just that it's not impossible. It would take considerably more than Parker to attract my interest if I were in Olshey's shoes.
