Does this fool not realize that the playoffs are an entirely different type of basketball? Its an entirely different game. So the basketball played in those 82 games doesnt always translate. Its very easy to take away 1-2 guys in the playoffs, especially on a team that doesnt move the ball.

And, by using his logic, I could counter with this: We should base the team off a 69-game sample size, as it's bigger than a 13-game sample size.
 
I get what he's saying Bones. You don't want to go all kneejerk over this playoff series loss. There IS good talent on this team, and they did run into a buzz saw, but in no way do I want him to blow the whole thing up. There needs to be some new addiitions, especially guys off the bench who can shoot, and I do think Nurkic needs to be re-signed, but I wouldn't trade top players just to make a move to be different. The late 80's team that went to the finals was a combination of draft picks who developed, and a key trade (Williams) that got them into contention. I think that is possible with THIS version as well.
 
I think the panic to sign bad players to huge contracts basically bidding against himself was the undoing. Olshey went from underestimated to Fool status in my book. At this point it may be better to clean the slate and see if a new GM/Coaching staff can accomplish better with this team moving forward. The talk of this team wants Staotts and that Team wants Olshey, I say go and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I'm not saying blow it up. I'm saying this logic is absolutely stupid and he's constantly condescending towards the fanbase.

I'm also tired of his act every time we fail, that tries to paint monumental failures (such as this postseason) as minimal and focus on regular season success with no thought put into why we failed in the playoffs in the first place. If he is putting thought into it, he's certainly not acting like it. The "We had a good 82 games regular season, that's more important than a poor 4 game playoff showing" logic is annoying and weak as hell.

The team is cognizant of the need to share the ball, numerous guys mentioned it in their exit interview. I don’t see why they couldn’t improve on it.

The signings of ET, Meyers, Harkless, and Crabbe was an overreaction to the that years free agency period, I agree. ALL of these players was way overpaid. But he is a good drafter, and the trade for Nurk was a good one IMO.

I agree. This team still has a lot of development in it. Nurk's potential is huge, IMO. He's 23, and hasn't played basketball all that long. But he made strides in the right direction. Neil does need to add some key pieces to the bench, especially players who can drain the shot. Ellington from the Heat has been mentioned in here. He would be a nice addition. Jordan Clarkson of the Cavs may be available. He's been hardly used by Cleveland since the trade. A new GM doesn't always work. And blowing up this young team would be kneejerk, and end up a disaster IMO.

They need a coach that puts players on the right positions on the floor to move the ball, as well as a coach who can teach them when and where to cut to exploit gaps. We need a coach with a system of set plays that utilizes ball and player movement, with some player movement and action actually going towards the rim. We need a coach that values transition and fast break basketball as well.

So either Stotts is going to need to completely overhaul his coaching style (which I doubt will happen, it's rare), or we need a new coach. The thing is, there's other problems with Stotts that makes it obvious we need a new coach.

Jordan Clarkson? Yeah, just what we need. Another guard making over $10M a year who is an awful defender and can't shoot from the outside. At least Ellington is only an awful defender and can actually shoot.

I don't follow your logic. He's had ONE off season since Nurkic was acquired. During that off season it was totally apparent that he was supposed to get the team in a position to get under the luxury tax, so no cap room available. You can't ignore the draft, that was literally his only avenue of adding talent. That would be like his first year saying you can't count Lillard because he was a draft pick.

I'm pretty sure you are of the belief that Collins will be a solid player right? You love Baldwin too right? This year was never about adding talent when they weren't performing well enough to add talent. They made a calculated decision to avoid the tax. It's pretty hard to both get under the tax line and add rotational pieces.

But why are we so hamstrung in terms of flexibility? Because of Olshey. Why did we have to be dormant for a year outside of dumping players? Because of Olshey.

It's also about his mindset and attitude though. I HATE IT.

Olshey has had two deadlines and one offseason since acquiring Nurkic.

And he somehow managed to turn three firsts into one player worth talking about.

We’ve had an unbalanced roster since the beginning of last season. All he’s done is swapped centers. Yeah it was an upgrade but it didn’t balance anything out.

He also might not have even done it if he wasn't forced to due to his overpayments during the off-season prior combined with Plumlee's upcoming free agency.

Nurkic deal was a week before the deadline last year. So you are going to say that since there was a week left he didn't do anything at the deadline? C'mon man.

Collins is a #10 pick. We made the playoffs so to get a lottery pick required moving up. Swanigan isn't for sure a bust yet either. Everything else can be explained by staying under the tax line.

That ass clown Neil Olshey makes me sick... I think I puked in my mouth listening to his exit interview today... no accountability for anyone in the organization for a complete failure of a season. He will never admit his mistakes

I agree the way his attitude is makes it difficult to like him. I try not to factor that in. It would be an issue for me if other GM's seemed to hate him but he has a good relationship with other GM's and has been willing to help other teams out whether it be to get under the tax line or to take unwanted players or as a 3rd team to make a deal work. So unless that starts to effect how the other GM's treat him I don't really care.

I've said numerous times that the Turner signing was bad and there is no excuse for that. He had a limited opportunity and took a shot. The RFA's that year I'm pretty sure that Allen wanted to keep them whatever the cost and that is backed up by the Haynes article last year in which he said Allen matched Crabbe without hesitation. If you have two players like Dame and CJ making that much money you are going to be limited financially. It's just the reality.

I don't think adding Collins, Swanigan, and Baldwin is dormant but to each his own. We'll see this summer. If he remains "dormant" this summer it's over for him here. It's that simple.

I wonder if he has the OK from Paul to use that Crabbe TPE. We’ll be in the tax. Might as well put together the best team possible.

Who do we plan on getting with that TPE? Not many teams are willing to part with talented players for cap space.

Lee is alright, would be decent off the bench. Rather try to find a scorer with that TPE though. We haven’t had a legit 6th man since Mo Williams.

Our team gets better every season. I remember missing the playoffs year after year while going from coach to coach to coach to GM to GM to GM...

I don’t disagree, my point is we haven’t had a Guy off the bench who can score since Mo. All of our bench players are mainly accessories to the starting lineup. Think about it, one of Dame or CJ are ALWAYS on the floor because we don’t have ANYONE who can put the ball in the basket on their own.

Oh 100%. I’m just saying Lee is a good scorer. He’d be an ideal sixth man imo.

I think the answer to that question is the whole key to the summer and whether or not Olshey will be able to fix this.
