there ain’t gonna be no big splash but I like Roussel and Van Reimsdyk . Both young players who play hard and are transitioning into vets. Roussel would show young guys how to play with Ballz and imagine JVR on a line with Chytil and Andersson

At this point it's kind of whatever this year. Wonder how Shatt feels about having signed and facing some down years through his deal. Maybe by his last year they'll be a playoff contender. They need to avoid using the Hollands and Careys and see what they have in Gropp, Letteri and maybe Fontaine this year.
 
Why does everyone think the team will stink? Av was a major problem. Expect a lot of young players to get better quick. They also had a ton of injuries last year. I think they will surprise
 
Miller was just as much of a negative as a positive. Nash was a negative considering the icetime he got. Spooner was much more productive. Grabner is still a role player. Easily replaced and he may resign here. McDonagh was the only major loss and quite honestly, he didn't even have a good season. I am confident that one of the 3 defenseman Gorton got in the deadline deals will come in with a coach with a clue and have a season as good as McDonagh's was last year. All you complained about Strud's was AV not wanting any physical players. Well, now you have a coach that does.
 
I wonder who they target next weekend. I doubt we see any big money long term deals. That eliminates guys like Carlson and JVR you'd think. They need a dman for the now I'd say.

Also interested to see what they do with the RFA's. Who gets resigned and who gets dealt (no shot they are all back). Should be a very interesting 7 or 8 days. Now things have to happen.
 
Yea I know Dump. They’ll get back to that tough game they played under Torts minus the shot blocking clinic. That whole turn the cheek mentality was so ridiculous at times last year.

JVR is probably looki for a long term deal. They have guys like him so yea he’s probably not going to be signed. I love Rousell and think that he will show guys the right way to play.

As far as other FA’s I don’t think they should shy away from the Statsny’s and Neal’s but I doubt those guys sign here. It would be great to have the young guys get some playoff experience and I think those guys will help but highly doubt it. Kane and Maroon likely want too much. I think we’re looking at bottom 6 role players. Just please don’t sign guys like Holland or Carey.
 
Team not going anywhere this year. Play the kids, let them play thru their ups and downs and get some experience for the future. Really shouldn't be signing any free agents. See what we have in the kids and anyone with a heartbeat in hartford.
 
Kane signed long term with SJ. They have to decide what they are doing with Staal, buying him out now or just keeping him and maybe getting something in a deal if he plays ok and we eat some salary. If guys like Lindgren and Hajek are ready then play them now instead of Kampfer. Pedrie is even a guy I'd like to see some of. They need to find out about the 23 y/o college FA types like he and Gilmour. Big year for DA too, maybe deal him with Zucc or Hayes.
 
I see no shot they buy out Staal now...why would they? They have tons of cap space and aren't winning next season, so why do it. Not happening.

We will sign some vets, but I think we are looking at the 2nd level of guys. The role guys. The 4th or 5th dmen and 3rd/4th line guys.
 
Yeah, may as well keep him for now and maybe flip him somewhere along the way in the next few years.
 
Carlson stays with the Caps. 8 years 8 mill AAV. 8x8.

These deals are crazy. We are going to stay focused on the 2nd level FA's I believe. And what will we do with our RFA's. We'll find out soon.
 
I think you'd have to make the Caps the favorite again right now unless someone like SJ or TB grab Tavares. At least he didn't end up on the Island.
 
With the crazy tight cap rules the Caps are in a pretty tight spot. They have nearly 55 mill tied up in 8 players. That leaves a little under 25 mill for the rest of their roster. Minimum 12 more players with 25 mill. That is tight and makes having depth very challenging. The way too restrictive NHL cap strikes again.
 
Just have to keep telling myself that Gorton was a huge factor in rebuilding Boston. Clark I have always loved. Little stunned by the draft but I have to trust these guys. FA wise. I would not do much.
 
The Caps will have enough to resign Pelly, Wilson, Bowey and Kempny easily and that will basically be the same team except Orpik. Samsonov will probably now be their backup.
 
Rangers should stay away from FA. Play the crap out of about 5 rookies and take it from there.
 
To me free agency depends on your expectations. If you want to have a solid team with a chance to compete for a WC spot, you need to add a couple of vets (especially on D). If you want to grow the kids and let them all learn and play, then don't sign anyone. But do know your team will struggle and not be a true WC threat. I know AV sucked, but the team we saw late last year is not good enough to make the playoffs, especially on D.

My guess is no long term big money deals will be given. They'll play it down the middle and sign a few (2 or 3) 2nd level role guys to fill in dmen 3-5 and play 3rd line type roles. That's my guess as to what they do. And put a handful of kids in the lineup every night. A team like that can compete for a WC spot, which may not be ideal as a top 3 pick next year would really set us up nicely in 2020 and beyond.
 
Competing for a WC spot means nothing if were not using the kids. Don't need or want any free agents. This is the year to play the kids and get another low pick to continue the rebuild. At the trade deadline more zucc, hayes etc for more first rounders and more picks etc. 2019-20 is the year they should make their move toward the playoffs again with experienced youth and a couple of good free agent pieces. Doing anything big this year is a waste of time and stymies the rebuild. Stay the course this year and get the kids in there.
 
They have a veteran goalie and good young players. Some that have been playing on the team for a while
 
We should take back someone like Girardi or Coburn with a pick/prospect for a year if TB needs to clear space for JT.
 
to me i do not want to put out a team that may contend for a WC spot with little to no chance of a real cup run. Its either be a title contender or break up the team start many young players and develop.
 
They’re going to play enough young players this year. If they can compete for a WC spot then great. Shows that the young guys can win. Buffalo and Edmonton have bottomed our for years and had top picks multiple times and they still suck
 
They are reportedly in talks with Leo Komarov.... could have used him a couple years ago during those playoff runs
 
Still trying to comprehend how losing Grabner, Nash, Miller, McDonough and Holden dooms the Rangers future - makes no sense. They have to get rid of Staal, his number counts for a year after they release him and that $5.7 through '20-'21 has to go.
 
Might sign Rieder... idk how I feel about that. He’s young and can net 20 goals but doesn’t fit the bill with Quinn... I though this team was deviating away from small soft forwards
 
Rangers sign Fredrick Claesson 1 year deal. If I remember correctly from fantasy hockey the guy hits a lot

Panze, are u sure about that. I thought if we buy out were still stuck for that contract of the 2 extra years. If we aren't then I agree we should either trade him or but out and get another kid in there to get some experience
