Merritt Paulson isn't rich enough to own the Timbers. He is a minority owner and his father is the majority owner.
Anyone who is not connected to the Portland will stand to make more money moving them. MUCH more money. Its a numbers game, and unless there are some ROCK solid guarantees, I fear for the future.
I'm not really into these type of things, but, could Phil Knight be interested or he already excluded the possibility in past interviews that I didn't read?
Maybe he might just to hold on to the franchise as his civic pride or duty. He could then conduct his own search in the next few years to make sure the team goes to an owner who will keep it here. God knows just holding on to the team for a few years will turn a profit
I wonder if Bill Gates would be willing to buy them, and let a management group do the day-to-day running of the joint? Everything else looks bleak. As people have mentioned: Phil Knight is too old, and Paulson doesn't have the dough.
Between the Seahawks, Blazers, and MLB expansion ... that is a lot of dough in play. One has got to take short shrift, right?
So you recognize that it hasn't happened but are worried that the NBA will just fuck over one of its best fan bases and lose a shit load of fans?
Fuck Seattle and their lunacy. They're worse than Portland up there. If this franchise moves to Seattle, I'm done. I'll follow players like Nurk, Dame, and CJ, and whoever they play for, but I'm not rooting for a Seattle team.
I don't think they would have a problem selling their stock to buy the Blazers if that is what they decided to do.
Seattle had a shitty arena, bad attendance, and all kinds of money problems. There is also such a thing as people learning from mistakes.
