OT Portland sports radio host Isaac Ropp arrested for drunken driving, records show

Can't say I'm surprised. He loved his libations.

That sucks, I like Ropp.

Heard him cry today on the radio.

Yep same. I'll have to listen to the podcast later and catch what he said. But Primetime is the best... but I'd understand if it got broken up because of this.

Had a couple drinks drove a car...?

And when the police arrived, he was standing on top of the car, naked, screaming about aliens, with a long shiny object in his rectum.

Or at least, that would make the story somewhat more interesting.

I hope they give him the chair. I've had 9 run-ins with drunk drivers since I got my license, including a double fatality due to alcohol. I have zero tolerance for those who drive drunk. I've seen first hand what such poor decisions can do, and checking the pulse of a bloody corpse crushed inside of a pickup truck while her friend is hanging lifeless outside of the cab erased any such sympathies I had for drunk drivers.

When I was 10 I saw a girl get hit by a drunk driver in front Shamrock on fessenden. She was definitely dead, it still freaks me out a bit.

My guess is this isnt Ropps 1st time. Its not like he’s a kid. I hardly ever consume any alcohol but even one is more than enough to know the smart decision is to not drive.

According to the article, it's his first DUI (though I doubt it's his first time driving intoxicated......), and his driving record is pretty colorful with tickets for speeding and parking violations. 10 parking violations, to be exact. That's ridiculous. I couldn't manage 10 parking tickets if I tried.

The guy sounds completely irresponsible, and either needs to have his license suspended, or he needs to address personal issues in his life with counseling, to help him become more responsible and even-headed.

Though if you're not responsible enough to get a designated driver at 42, then I doubt counseling will work.

I listen to every show on podcast. I used to only go back and listen to the club hour but it's so easy to download the whole show and there are no commercials so it goes fast. I've been listening to Ropp since his Saturrday show Ropp and the Mop with Gavin Dawson back in the early 2000's. After learning about the DUI I was still listening to the show from last Friday. It was cringe-worthy how Ropp kept making jokes about drinking and saying his favorite drinking quotes.

He and Suke have talked at length over the last couple years about colleges trying to hide wrongdoings and covering them up instead of just doing the right thing and telling the truth before it all comes out. Ropp himself even says everything comes out anyway so why not get ahead of it? Well last week we were told he was "sick" when he missed two shows and came back to do the Thursday and Friday shows with absolutely no difference in his tone or jokes about drinking. When it comes to him messing up why not just come out and own it on Thursday?

While I do think his apology was sincere, it would have been a lot more sincere and honest had he done it BEFORE the O-Live article came out. Did he actually think no one would find out about it?

I love Ropp and will continue to listen, but he should've owned it right when it happened.

The problem with sobriety is that since I've stopped using any alcohol I'm now the local designated driver....my son loves it as do all his friends and my new inlaws!

You're in Eugene right? Didn't they just allow Uber in the downtown area? Ducks fans were bitching that they didn't when one of Willie Taggart's coaches got caught literally the week he was hired.

I'm guessing he was under orders by the station manager not to say anything but that changed after the O-live article came out.

Yeah but based on what Ropp says on his show regularly about how other people should come out and admit wrong doing before it becomes public he is a major hypocrite if that is what happened.

My comment about the first time was about getting behind the wheel after drinking and its pure speculation.

Yeah very few get caught the "First Time".
Yeah, its possible that was his first time, but it wasnt exactly like he’s a kid. I think he’s 42. Sounds like he came back to work business as usual until the story came out and he went all emotional...
He very well may be upset about it, but I hope hes more upset about what he did than getting caught.

I'd make a terrible Uber driver....I'd be telling drunk Duck fans how they should be walking everywhere in Tracktown USA! Driving drunk Duck fans around in my Beaver gear....that's not gonna work out

Yeah Ive listen to him since Ropp/Mop days and have always enjoyed his balance fun and seriousness. I agree he should have apologized/addressed it before the article.
I haven't heard the interview but it sounds a bit odd that he was crying when Ropp always comes across with own it and move on, with little sympathy or emotions.
I hope the sobbing isn't an indicator that he's struggling with alcohol?

When I was younger I drove drunk a couple times. Then one time I was out with friends at a bar and I decided not to have a drink for whatever reason. We all got into my jeep and went to the store to get a bunch of booze. My friends were hammered. I was still stone cold sober. We were going to get on the freeway but at the last minute decided to stop at one of their houses so I changed lanes out of the on ramp and continued down the road. I'm not sure how long the cop had been following me, but he pulled me over. Unfortunately there was literally no shoulder so I was trying to find a place to pull over. He yelled at me to pull the car over from his loud speaker. Finally there was a turn into a parking lot so I stopped. The guy must have asked me if I'd had anything to drink about 100 times. I'm sure it looked like an open and shut case. My friends were wasted. We had a ton of booze in the back. I didn't pull over right away. He pulled me out of the car to talk to me. As he was doing that another patrol car was showing up. I will admit I was being a little smug. I hadn't had a single drink that night. He had to let me off with a warning to drive safer (his excuse was me deciding to change lanes at the last minute was the reason for pulling me over.)

Since then I have never drank and drive. I don't really drink very often anyway. But I considered that a wakeup call. Something or someone was sending me a message that night.

I was driving a car I'd just bought the day before to a gig in SF from Lake Tahoe and outside of Sacramento a drunk driver doing 110mph in the slow lane on I 80 hit me ...I was doing about 60....totaled the car..put two of my band member in the hospital...the guy just gave up his license and went to jail...hired a lawyer and the guy had nothing so I also ended up with a lawyer bill......it was Christmas Eve...I hadn't transferred the insurance yet as it was the holiday...this is my Christmas tale...I remember looking in the rear view mirror and seeing these two seemingly endless ribbons of light...headlights coming up at twice my speed. When he hit me it shot my car two miles down the interstate before I could stop....worse thing....I lost some really great instruments that I could never replace.....I replaced them but the ones that died were special.

No. I wasn't suggesting you becoming an Uber driver. I was suggesting your friends might use it as an alternative to just callibg you sofrequently. :drinkapint:
