Rehashing this, but can we get Blake without giving up CJ?

Evan/Zach/Aminu/2019 1st for Blake. Throw in Simons if needed. That saves them a ton of money. We'd be locked in to this big 4 forever though.
 
I want Reggie Bullock maaan. He’s also an expiring, meaning Detroit is most likely open to trading him.



He is a career 40% shooter from outside, and he’s done it consistently his whole career, going back to college. I’m not going to pretend like I sit around analyzing Pistons games, but everything I’ve read about his defense suggests he would be a good fit with Dame and CJ.

It simply comes down to whether or not their owner wants to build around him or get rid of his contract and if our current ownership is willing to take on that much money since it all but guarantees luxury tax payments for the next 3 years.

Much like you're suggesting with the Blazers, the Pistons I think want to try and trade some of their secondary pieces to build around Blake before trading him. Most fans are sick of Drummond and Reggie Jackson and want them traded, not Griffin. As proven in this thread though, most fans don't care for trades that are made for financial reasons so it might be a possibility.

Thats way to much for Blake. A very often injured "star" who is on the decline athletically who is owed 34m, 36.5 then 40m the next three years aftrer the 33m he is owed this year. That is just asking to hamstring us capwise for the next 4 years.

I can't root for that hair. I loved BG and his rasta look, but this is just too far. I don't even know what this is.

The basketball fit for our squad would be tremendous. And we'd open up roster space for the buyout guys in Feb. A Dame/CJ/Harkless/Blake/Nurk lineup with Curry Sauce off the bench. And if this iteration won't work, we can then move CJ in a subsequent deal for what we need.

I think that big 4 would be the best top heavy talent in the league this side of GS.

The problem is that a trade involving Griffin wouldn't come down to basketball reasons.
 
Blake's salary is a tough pill to swallow. Which is why I'd only be in on the trade if it included Turner in addition to CJ (being the guy that makes DET say okay).

When you look at it through the lens of only paying an additional $7M over what CJ is making, but the player better balances the roster, the price tag isn't quite as bad. Add in the $18M savings from getting rid of Turner a year early and that pretty much covers the difference between CJ's and Blake's salaries.

What if instead of Otto Porter we put Blake Griffin into my Dallas trade?

Dallas gets CJ and ET

Phoenix gets Dennis Smith Jr

Detroit gets Harrison Barnes, Swanigan, and Aminu

Portland gets Blake Griffin, Wes Matthews, and Mikal Bridges
 
Sean Deveney is reporting that Charlotte is desperate to dump Batum.

How many unprotected lotto picks would they have to attache to the deal before you would even consider it? :biglaugh:

I would do Turner, Leonard, and Aminu for Batum, Marvin Williams and just one 1st rounder. I hate the idea of bringing Batum back at that cost though.

Batum and a first for Turner and Biggie. Then use the extra first to dump Leonard.

So you are willing to pay near 40 mil for that first round pick? That's what it would cost the Blazers in salary and that's not even counting the luxury tax implications and Batum is having a similar season as Turner. That's a lot of money for a sideways exchange and a first round pick.

Portland doesn’t project to be in the luxury after next season. Being in the luxury is whatever as long as they avoid being repeat offenders. And they could also theoretically use that extra pick to dump someone else cough Meyers.

40 million dollars for a first round pick just to dump another salary and Leonard is an expiring contract next year. If he continues to play like he has been, it should be relatively simple to move him before the deadline next year without adding a pick. You guys have no patience. We would be better off letting those contracts come off the books if they can't be dealt next year.

Also, how do you figure that we won;t be in luxury tax next year as we have a projected salary of 123mil next year and if you take away Batum and Swanigan and add Batum that would put us 5.5 mil next year over the 123 mil and that's with 10 players under contract. Even if we moved Leonard, we would likely have to take back some salary as well sign Aminu. We will likely be over the salary cap as I expect Aminu to be in or around 9-10mil (in other words about a push for Leonard). The following season we are projected near 77 mil. Add in Batum and Aminu that would push it out to 114mil and only 7 players under contract.

Or used to straight up dump Turner next off-season if there's someone we really want for the Full MLE (or through sign-and-trade) that wants to come here.

Turner, Leonard, and Biggie makes absolutely 0 sense. Batum isn't gonna take this team to the next level like an Otto Porter Jr. would, we likely don't open up the full MLE by saving $5M next year unless we let Aminu walk, but that defeats the purpose since we'd have to try to fill his spot instead of upgrading elsewhere.

It looks like that pick could be as high as 6th (lottery pending) or as low as 17th. The Blazers right now would have the 21st pick. Having the assets to get up into the lottery while making the playoffs and adding another big time player to the roster is worth it in my opinion.

I don't see Charlotte offering an unprotected pick though. Jordan isn't a Billy King and a rebuilding team isn't likely to give up a high lottery pick and Kupchak is also sharper than that. I know you like to play forum GM, would you do an unprotected pick? That's a huge assumption that would be available. For this scenario I would lean towards that not being an option.

Blake is just the kind of big this team needs. I've been saying this for a couple years now. Unfortunately, I doubt Neil would go for him because he has such a hard on for Collins.

Well first off, @Scalma's question was how many picks would they have to give us to take Batum so I was answering that I would be fine with their pick this year as the only one if they took Turner back plus filler. You are coming in asking a completely different question.

If I'm the Blazers I would still accept the pick with top-5 protection this season. Like I said previously the Hornets aren't going to finish worse than 6th or better than 17th. With protecting it top-5 they keep it if they get lucky or don't if they stay where they are at. I think that is more than fair for taking on as much money for Batum as that would end up being.

If I'm the Hornets (or frankly any team that isn't a contender) I would almost never attach a pick just to dump salary. The only exception to that would be if my boss told me I had to or if doing so was because I had another move lined up that I needed the money for. These types of trades happen all the time though so obviously some teams are in fact willing to salary dump with picks (just not unprotected anymore). Those are the teams I'd be constantly trying to take advantage of and if the Hornets are desperate to move Batum they almost certainly have to give up something good to do so.

So then you agree with me that Charlotte wouldn't offer a pick with little or no protection. Kupchak and Jordan aren't that easily duped. We would need to find the next Billy King to buy into something like that.

I just said that it depends on how desperate they are to dump Batum. Without attaching something like their 1st round pick or maybe Bridges and Monk (perhaps all 3), I don't really see a scenario where they can get rid of Batum.

Over the summer in a Detroit forum I was the Hornets in their mock off season. I didn't really see a path to contention with the current roster so I blew it up and traded Kemba. I tried very hard to get rid of Batum without attaching assets but couldn't find a deal although I thought once I was close but then the guy disappeared. So I ended up being fine stuck with him and actually was willing to take on other bad contracts for draft picks too. I ended up with Mo Bamba, Collin Sexton, and Zach Collins to start my rebuild around. I know it's not real life but I think the Hornets are being dumb by not really being bad but also not being good enough to make the playoffs most years in the East so who knows what they'd do to shed salary.
 
Per Sean Deveney: The Hornets are offering Kaminsky as incentive to any team willing to take on Batum or Bismark. Given that Kaminsky has fallen out of their rotation and is headed into RFA, that's worth about as much as a 3-legged, 1-eyed, race horse. I can't see anybody biting on that.
 
No thanks on Blake. Just like Love he can't stay healthy. 30+ million a year for someone who has not played more then 67 games in a season over the last 6 years. Need a big you can rely on.
 
Sporting News is reporting the Washington's Markief Morris is out at least 6 weeks with neck and back issues. Will that lower his price, or just his worth?
