Betting odds are about 27:1 that Billups wins COY.

That is less than 4%, I'm thinking his chance to win is much higher than that.

I think maybe it's in the 10-20% range. If Blazers are a top3 seed he has a great chance. Murray Kawhi Klay all injured. There is a chance the Blazers add talent with a trade or giving up picks. Dame will want to push for a top record, more so than other teams like Phx, LAL, Utah that focus on rest and the postseason. Brooklyn MIL PHI even with a top record will have started with high expectations so not be viewed as an accomplishment.

What so you think?

Let's see him get coach of the month at least...
That's not how predictions, odds or betting works. Of course we'll know more if we wait and he get a monthly award.

But if he gets coach of the month you won't be able to bet 27:1 odds.

Bet $100 now you win $2700. Wait till he wins COM, odds go to 2:1, bet $100, he wins you only get $200.

nurk will make chauncey billups "coach of the year"

you heard it here first

I don’t bet but those are definitely odds I would take right now.

is this awarded before the playoffs? Or at least isn't the voting done before the playoffs?

Portland won the equivalent of 48 wins last season...and 6th seed. So I'd think the Blazers would have to at minimum win 53-55 games and be a top-4 seed for Billups to get much traction. That seems a tall order; 27-1 type of tall order? That I don't know. 10 dollars bringing back 270 would be a fun bet though

All the awards except basically finals MVP are voted on prior to the playoffs and only reflect regular season:

MVP, ROY, COY, MIP, 6MY, DPOY, All NBA

I'd place that bet. I've wasted $100 on a lot worse things than that.

Oh good lord……now he’s going to win coach of the year???? According to a bunch on here Stotts was the worst coach in the league and even he won Coach of the month. You guys are setting our new coach up for failure with some of there expectations!

What are the odds of big shot b logging some player/coach minutes on the way to the finals?

If I were a betting person (I am), I think these are fairly favorable odds. Billups has a few things that could help him win COY:

1) His best player competes hard in Nov/Dec and could help stack up wins
2) IF the roster stays healthy, that's a handful of extra wins.
3) Being a new coach, I believe he's more likely to be credited with any regular season win increase than a long term coach.

Having said that, I won't be making the bet.

Player coach? I'd say odds should be 0.00%.... When was the last time they had one and is that even allowed now with the CBA?

The last player coach was in 1979, so its been over 40 years. I'm pretty certain it would violate the CBA now as players can't have compensation outside the salary cap.

"Dave Cowens is the last player-coach in the league. He coached the Celtics in the 1978–79 season"

I thought Ainge was a player coach at PHX for one season...

*Edit* Nope. He was an assistant that season, then took over as coach after 8 games. I think it was the season after he retired from playing.

Good lord when we are 12-18 after 30 games, are you guys going to be going nuts on Billups? Saying it’s his fault?

It’s just that you guys are putting this man on such a pedestal like he’s going to come in a fix everything just by sitting on the bench.
