Player coach? I'd say odds should be 0.00%.... When was the last time they had one and is that even allowed now with the CBA?
The last player coach was in 1979, so its been over 40 years. I'm pretty certain it would violate the CBA now as players can't have compensation outside the salary cap. "Dave Cowens is the last player-coach in the league. He coached the Celtics in the 1978–79 season" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_National_Basketball_Association_player-coaches
I thought Ainge was a player coach at PHX for one season... *Edit* Nope. He was an assistant that season, then took over as coach after 8 games. I think it was the season after he retired from playing.
Good lord when we are 12-18 after 30 games, are you guys going to be going nuts on Billups? Saying it’s his fault?
It’s just that you guys are putting this man on such a pedestal like he’s going to come in a fix everything just by sitting on the bench.
Pretty disrespectful to suggest that head coaches "just sit on a bench". As to "where the blame will go" if the team has a rough start, I imagine that would depend on where the performance deficiencies lie. Nobody here claims to be clairvoyant. But we can see that the disparities between what we saw from Stotts and what we've seen so far from Billups are encouraging, to say the least.
well looks like i wasted two $50 payments that equal $100.00. you are still here… i want my money back!
I couldn’t care less about COY. I just want an NBA title. However, the odds of getting either one this year are slim, in my opinion.
Fair question. A rookie coach installing a new system - a 20-20 start would be a pleasant surprise. Personally, I am waiting till the 2nd half of the season to pass judgement on Billups.
L Thats just it. We haven't’ seen anything from Billups. And what I meant by sitting on the bench, I meant taking the court.
The idea that Portland just needed a little tinkering this off-season is a delusion. Everybody except Olshey seems to understand that.
