Like I said, from my experience on other forums/message boards, I guess I have different expectations/decorum from mods. If you don't see anything wrong with it, you're totally entitled to that opinion. We move.
I’ve been a Blazer fan for many years. I recognize my opinion is in the minority. I’m rooting for Scoot. Help me see the truth - what do you see in Scoot that gives you so much hope for him in the future? I was skeptical of Scoot before the draft. In the G-League regular season - - His PER was only 13.5. That's below average for the G-League. - 3.5 turnovers and 3.3 fouls per game. - Not only did he shoot 27.5% 3 pointers in the G-League regular season, he also only shot 46.5% for 2 pointers. That's not good efficiency. - For being a point guard that facilitates scoring, he only had a 98 offensive rating. Combine that with a 122 defensive rating, one of the worst in the G-League. - His G-League team only went 11-21. Many of the red-flags we saw in his G-League performance, we now see in his NBA performance. I honestly look forward to the day I can say I was wrong about Scoot.
If you want hope, here's what I'd tell you: Almost all 19 year old PGs struggle their rookie year By all accounts he has a great attitude and work ethic He has the build to make a difference on both ends of the floor
The future? Don't need to look at the future. Scoot just had an 11 assist 1 turnover game which is extremely rare (someone had a list) for a player his age. If we look at Scoot's scoring in his 12 games in December, the only place he needed to improve was his 2-point shooting. He has shot 32.6% on 3-pointers which is acceptable for him at this point in his "career," and 87.5% on his free throws, which is fantastic. Scoot is not an efficient shooter from the field, but take a look at his field goal attempts vs. points scored in December: Shot attempts. Points scored 23_____________25 15_____________17 9_____________12 5 _____________4 9_____________9 9_____________14 10____________13 21____________23 16____________19 17____________10 9____________9 15____________17 He only had one huge stinker as a scorer which was the December 8th game against Dallas in which he took 17 shots and only got 10 points. That is not to say that he has been an efficient scorer either in December, but he's not far below all of his teammates this month.
I can't find the tweet but Marang said at the start of the season that there has only been like 5 nineteen year old point guards who have averaged 15 and 5 for a season. Ever. I know two of them were Kyrie and Trae Young. I can't remember the rest.
Good to know. He blocked me on Twitter because I suggested he reach out to his local pizza joint about the bad customer service he had vs putting them on blast via social media, as it may have been an isolated incident not worthy of negative publicity. The public blasting of companies to get free stuff seemed to becoming a tactic of his.
Why is it so hard to understand that 99.99% of 19 year olds are not ready to play at star level in the NBA? The naysayers are blaming Scoot for not being a 19 y/oROTY point-guard candidate on a tanking, very young team, with a coach that doesn't exactly have a track record of developing guys. What would he have looked like if he were playing for GSW, for example? Clearly his shooting needs work. No argument there. Many many players have not had great rookie seasons. We get it, Scoot is not good enough for you. I suggest putting it in your signature for the rest of his career.
Yeah wasn’t there an instance with door dash and delivering to the station where he publicly blasted some female door dash driver? I mean I’m torn on Marang. He seems harmless, acts like he’s in the know, and I want to like him. But he bugs the shit out of me. If he says ‘Tangential’ one more time I’m going to lose it. His co-host makes fun of him constantly. It’s funny
Totally understand your perspective. This forum is a great place to share ideas and learn how other fans are viewing the team/players. I don't post a lot on this forum. I like to think that when I do contribute, that others appreciate my input, even if it doesn't line up with their perspective. It brings me no pleasure to see Scoot struggle. Acknowledging that he is struggling should not be vilified on this forum. I'll be the first poster to be excited when he elevates his game to the level deserving of the #3 draft pick.
Correctly, that was like a week prior to his blasting of the pizza place. I didn't even mean for my comment to be an attack on him, but to provide a different method that might not negatively impact others. I have notice the guy tends to be involved in a lot of situations where he's the victim; makes your wonder...
Im right there with you. Pre-draft, I was not excited about the idea of Scoot because his game had so many yellow flags. As he did more media and got to see his personality more, I felt more comfortable with him as a draftee. Watching him play live in summer league (for 10 minutes) I finally saw a glimpse. Physically, he has the makings of a star. Personality/Mentality/Approach to the game - I like what I see. Skills wise, he still has major holes in his game. Not sure he closes the gap to get to star level... but Im confident that he'll get to an above average starter (due to his mentality/approach)
I'm with you for most of this but how has Chauncey been less than excellent at developing guys? Ant has blossomed under Billups, Shae started slow in his rookie season but ended strong and carried that through to this season, Jabari, Toumani and now look at what Scoot is doing. In game management Chauncey has left something to be desired but player development has been nothing short of fantastic.
I don't think the sixth man of the year on the team with the second best record in the league... is a "mid tier NBA player".
and I’m not sure how many people care about game management when it seems like the objective with all the ‘soreness’ 25 games into the season is to lose.
I consider anybody who is never going to sniff an All Star appearance, but is an above average starter as mid tier
