Chris Paul did. 18 and 10. That's nothing to scoff at for a young center. I'm not comparing getting him to Mark Williams or Alex Sarr.

    Think you have it backwards.

Adding a 35 mil Ayton with a 45 mil Dame and 35 mil Grant makes it super restrictive. Adding a 35 mil Ayton with a roster filled with Grant and lesser contracts makes more sense to me. Ayton also aligns with the age of the rest of the roster and his contract expires right as Sharpe's will be ready for extension.

That said, I think this is just noise. Same with the CJ to ATL stuff that arose before finalizing the NO deal.

I assumed its part of the Lillard trade.

    Salary matching is much easier.

Would be very odd to trade Nurk but not Dame.

Or would be hard to do Dame deal now with a Nurk trade later when there's way less salary/asset/pick flexibility.

I don't think an Ayton trade happens without Nurk going back to Phoenix.

The main incentive for Phoenix to trade Ayton is to add depth. I also heard that Toronto is a team that might be involved (maybe for Herro?)

I don't think Suns are taking on Robinson contract, they'd want some tax relief either this year or next.

With Ayton's name being thrown around, this trade right here could very well be what we end up with, maybe we get swaps or something else but the Heat give up Herro, Martin, Jaquez, Jovic and two unprotected firsts. The one thing I think that's missing is that the Heat really get a great deal because Gary isn't that much of a downgrade if he is at all from Herro or Martin.

That being said, for us to get Ayton, Jaquez, Jovic, three unprotected firsts and expiring contracts who are both high character vets seems like not a fair return for Dame and Nurk but closer to fair than I was expecting. Great job on that trade.

I think you should have to have a license to operate the Trade Machine, and you get points on that license very easily and can have it revoked.

(Of course, it's pretty rich, me saying that.)

I mean, it would have to be a multi team trade, but even still I have trouble seeing how PHX matches salaries here.

He only wants to be a Heat period.

If he had a no trade clause, he can stop Joe from trading him to Toronto.

I’d love to actually get an unprotected 1st from Toronto but I’m skeptical. GT + an unprotected 1st seems like it would be too much for me. Regardless, I think I’d still be happy with that package, considering the garbage that was being put out there. Considering Ant and Grant could also be moved by next offseason, I think we’ll have plenty of picks.

Scoot and Sharpe are the future backcourt. Ayton will be a reliable lob threat for them for the next 3 years, and hopefully Schmitz finds a C in this next draft that can develop behind Ayton for the next 2-3 years. A Grant and/or Ant trade could find us a young wing. I do like Jovic as a prospect.

The future could be worse. I already like our future more than the Pacers’, and we’re technically only year 1 in this rebuild.

Yeah I don’t think the Suns would take Robinson. But I wonder if we just took Robinson, and Nas + Boucher go to the Suns. So far, this is my favorite mock trade.

    Scoot/Ant/Lowry
    Ant/Sharpe/Thybulle/Rupert
    OG/Thybulle/Murray/Jaquez
    Grant/Walker/Murray/Jovic/Young
    Ayton/____/Brown/Badji

It would be foolish to put any kind of expectations on this year, but if Chauncey can now implement an offensive scheme with more ball movement, I think we’d in the playoff hunt for much of the season unless Ant and Grant are traded.

I’d love to walk into year 2 of a rebuild with Scoot, Sharpe, a re-signed OG, and Ayton.

If they did Ayton for Nurk and some kind of filler. Why would Dame want to leave?
You trot out Lillard Scoot, Grant Thybulle and Ayton, With Sharpe and Ant off the bench.
Tell me that team can't win some games? Doesn't win it all this year but that team improves and maybe at the trade deadline you can move Simons for another piece?

Agreed. I was so anti-Ayton, it wasn’t even funny. But man, I’d take him as the Markannen-piece of a Dame trade and bank on him taking a leap forward.

Alex Sarr. Aaron Bradshaw. Izan Almansa. Donovan Clingan. Any of those guys developing behind Ayton, I would take.

At this point, just give me Ayton, I’ve already talked myself into the idea. Here are some reasons Ayton and Scoot might both be good for each other:

    1. Things looked grim for Scoot after the ping pong balls were announced, and he strangely would end up in the best situation for him. Scoot gets CP3’s PnR partner for the last 3 years, a Finals MVP coach, and a former AS vet(
upload_2023-9-19_17-21-1.jpeg ). Ayton is a reliable finisher and someone that can bail out Scoot on a lot of possessions when he is amongst the trees.

    2. Ayton is much more talented than Nurk, but comes with the same mental lapses. He’s going to be a guy who wants touches. It’s going to take a balance of Scoot and Chauncey stroking Ayton’s ego with PnRs, dump-off passes, paint touches, etc. In theory, Scoot could hunt for switches with Ayton as the screen setter any night Scoot plays someone his size or smaller. Then it’s Scoot’s pick between calling his number or giving Ayton a paint touch. If I was coach, I’d put it in Scoots ear to help him get to 20+ppg.

Schematically, this is the year we need to implement a defensive system. No one should need switching, everyone should be required to guard their man. Grant will look so much better on defense simply because he isn’t asked to do the one thing he is terrible at on defense.

It's difficult for me to get over the fact that when it came down to clutch time in the playoffs last year, Monte Williams chose Jock Landale over a healthy Ayton.

Nurk for Ayton just seems like one underachieving head-case for another. Landale getting the finish in playoffs is pretty telling. I trust that Monte knows what he's doing.
