I guess I'm too old to understand "modern era"
I didn't see it in the article but is the score the writer came up with cumulative? If it is, that seems like a serious flaw in the formula. Playing together a long time doesn't make you better.
http://espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2015/story/_/page/Top10backcourts/ranking-best-backcourts-modern-nbaAlas, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson don't make it -- yet. They've played together only four years, and everyone in the top 10 spent at least six seasons together. But after both made the Western Conference All-Star team this year, the Warriors' backcourt already ranks 21st on the list, and they're surely coming for a spot in the top 10. Here's who they're chasing.
Jordan and anyone.

LOL.
Jordan's definition of duo is himself and whoever inbounds to him.

Probably thisIsiah and dumars
That combo never did anything in the playoffs though.Kidd and Carter was pretty underrated

I can't believe no one has mentioned Magic and Byron Scott. Is our Laker hatred that strong here? (I didn't read the article.)
In Magic's second season, both he and Norm Nixon averaged over 8.5 assists per game.. In their third season together, Magic averaged 9.5, Nixon 8.0. In their 4th season together, 10.5 and 7.2.
They won two championships and lost in the finals once in those 4 seasons.
By your numbers, Nixon was clearly on a decline while Showtime was building up speed.
