Who would have thunk this would have been the WS... LOVE IT. Grew up a cubbies fan.. but, really, either winning is great because it's not the Yankees or Red Sox... and someone is going to win the WS that hasn't in a long, long time. So, win win for me.

Jeez. They are celebrating like they already won the World Series. Good thing they don't have a game tomorrow.

"To claim that Gore was seriously trying to take credit for the "invention" of the Internet is, frankly, just silly political posturing that arose out of a close presidential campaign. If, for example, President Eisenhower had said in the mid-1960s that he, while president, "took the initiative in creating the Interstate Highway System," he would not have been the subject of dozens and dozens of editorials lampooning him for claiming he "invented" the concept of highways or implying that he personally went out and dug ditches across the country to help build the roadway. Everyone would have understood that Eisenhower meant he was a driving force behind the legislation that created the highway system, and this was the very same concept Al Gore was expressing about himself with interview remarks about the Internet."

There.

GO CUBS.

I thought the interstate highways were started as a result of WWI?

I thought they were started as a result of congestion in the downtown areas, so traffic could be diverted around for those passing through?

Regardless of why, Eisenhower was a huge reason why they came to be. He wasn't out digging trenches though.

Why? It's fun. Let us have our fun.

It's the old saying, you say a lie enough times and it becomes the truth. Or, "A Lie Can Travel Halfway Around the World While the Truth Is Putting On Its Shoes"

Ok I looked it up, the first attempts at interstate highways was in 1916, it was stalled by the financial burden of WWI. Eisenhower was a Lt. Colonel during WWI and along with the army, went on a cross country road trip. The trip was part victory lap, part recruiting, and part "let's see how easily our army can travel our own country in case of invasion". The roads were in horrible condition, and Eisenhower thought something needed to be done about it. After WWII Eisenhower pushed heavily for better interstate highways. This was influenced by that trip in 1919, as well as seeing how easily the nazis travelled using the autobahn.
