It'd be like Bo Jackson playing in a NFL game in the morning, rushing for 150 yards and 2 touchdowns, then playing in a major league game in the evening and going 4-4 with 3 jacks, or something like that. Either way, what Ohtani did is goat territory for sure. There is no real comparison

So you guys mean to tell me Shoehei's performance is on another level than these?

Chris Paul (20 points, 20 assists, 0 turnovers, FG 50%)

Kevin Love (31 points, 31 rebounds)

Nikola Jokic (35 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists, 0 turnovers, 100% FG)

Nikola Jokic (41 points, 15 rebounds, and 15 assists)

Shaquille O’Neal (24 points, 28 rebounds, 15 blocks)

James Harden (60 points, 10 rebounds, 11 assists)

David Robinson (34 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, 10 blocks)

Hakeem Olajuwon (38 points, 17 rebounds, 6 assists, 7 steals, 12 blocks)

Russell Westbrook (20 points, 20 rebounds, 21 assists)

Luka Doncic (60 points, 21 rebounds, and 10 assists)

Its not even close. None of those compare in the slightest.

Magic Johnson playing center in game 6 of the 1980 finals and racking up 42pts, 15 rbs, 7 assists.

He asked for an example in NFL or NBA. I think mine is pretty good.
I’d have to agree it’s one of one.
Just so much of what he did was completely individual.
When talking about Magic’s stat line which I don’t want to take anything away from because it was an incredible game it still has assists and rebounds that are part of the team game.
Pitching at that level and then batting at that level there simply is no comparison.
Been said many times there is absolutely nothing harder to do in pro sports than hit a major league fastball. Now deliver one as well.
It’s just on a level of its own.

Would a fair comparison be if Travis Hunter, in an NFL playoff game

2 INTS, returning one for a TD, on defense

8 catches for 150 yards & another 2 TD’s on offense

?
Another great game by a player that had an incredible game but again. Those interceptions are bad throws and a situational play. 8 catches can also be about how the defense was playing him and how well the ball was thrown to him not to mention the pass protection the offensive line provided and play calling from coaches.

Good lord I watched the plate umpire's bodycam video of Ohtani's fastball and I swear it's unhittable...you can hardly see the damned ball! It's really remarkable how this guy dominates the sport.

In my opinion there simply is no comparison.
You will get players that put up stats in other sports but I highly doubt you will ever see a performance like that again in baseball as long as you live.
I feel like I could do what Ohtani did if I dedicate

i found it

March 18, 1968, Wilt Chamberlain - 53 points, 32 rebounds, 14 assists, 24 blocks, and 11 steals

FAMS! You got me hooked on baseball now. After watching the Mariners game last night (I recorded it)
I went on MAX on my TV and watched the Dodgers game. I already had heard how my guy Notami did, just had to see this historical night for myself. Can’t believe my 2 favorite teams might matchup in the World Series!
The Lakers are playing in the world series?

I don't follow baseball as much as basketball and football. What is the equivalent of Ohtani's game last night to NBA, NFL?
NBA - something like scoring 100 pts with 10 blocks and 10 steals

NFL if Tom Brady got to the super bowl - but was also a defensive end and had 5 sacks and a pick 6

None of these are close to Ohtani game.

Yeah, but someone else said it, Baseball is individualized that way whereas basketball, football, etc, some of those stats are other-dependent.

His pitching prowess is dependent of the batters' ability too.

His batting prowess is dependent of the pitcher's ability too.

Real independent sport would be like running where your time is not affected by another

Yes and no, in a vacuum I see where you are coming from but the control of the defense is independent because he is in control of every single pitch whereas in basketball or football it is truly a team game where multiple moving parts need to fit at times for the outcome to materialize.

In basketball a team can give more shots to best players and feed someone with a hot hand. In baseball the best hitter still gets 11% of at bats and best pitcher 20% of starts. So it is more individual in that sense.

Really going to be an exciting World Series! Go Mariners!!!! Naylor will need to adjust that lazy batting stance he uses against Ohtani or he's going to be easy pickings at the plate. Too much wasted motion in Naylor's swing. It ain't golf!
