Nurkic throws fans phone

Going back and forth with fans, even the fans that are on the court after games has been happening as far as I know throughout the history of the game... that's at every level of the game where proximity is just about the same as it is in the NBA. Still we've seen no reason to think that a serious incident is impending. Sorry you're getting angry because you have a suspicion that I find to be far more based in paranoia than in any kind of reality.
Sports is, and always has been a microcosm of society.
To not believe this, is simply, foolish.
I get the feeling you & I are on the same side of the political aisle, which is one reason your dedicated opposition to my "fears" puzzles me.

Stalking Jusuf the whole game, trying to find him. Dude needs to be banned from the arena.
Yeah, I think the league should just publicly come out and ban the guy from all games and issue a statement that this kind of harassment of players will not be accepted. Rodman would get worse than this when visiting Utah back in his day and the NBA and Jazz finally stepped in and did something about it. I think other fans have been made an example of in the past as well. The fact is that just like Rodman and pretty much everyone else outside of Vernon Maxwell, Ron Artest and Nurk... the reaction to this should be to point the offending fan out to security and tell the league to handle it. The fan should be penalized but make no mistake about it, Nurk is the anomaly in this situation not the fan.

There's a great chance that I'm just not seeing something evolving in a way that it is. It wouldn't be the first time and it certainly won't be the last. So I'll leave it at that and respect your opinion on the matter.

$40K...yikes!

and I was enraged for a week over a $150 speeding ticket. Of course, I was justified. It happened in Turner, Oregon and I got a ticked for going 28mph in a 25mph zone. I shit you not. That little piece of shit town is a speed trap. 50 dollars for every MPH over the limit

that was 15 years ago and I'm getting pissed off thinking about it right now. What a little twerp sneering cop
Yep, that's what I figured. $10k less than I thought, actually...

Why are there LaCrosse tweets in this thread? What did I miss FAMS!?

What Nurk did is really stupid. Dude gets paid millions of dollars to play basketball. Messing with fans could have ended up costing him millions of dollars if he would have gotten suspended. I get being emotional if someone starts talking shit about a family member, but that shit happens way more often than you think. Call the fan names. Tell him to shut the fuck up. Ignore him and walk away.

The absolute worst thing dude could do was get physical in anyway, including grabbing the dudes phone and chucking it.

Nurk has more to lose than that fan. When you get successful you don't let people that have less to lose cause you to fuck up.

Nowadays if Nurk did something like punch that fan he might have gotten kicked out of the league.

Nurk is a big man. A cop is going to look at him beating up someone half his size and say he should have known better. Just the way things are.

If the kid threw the first punch and nurk started beating his ass, nurk would still get in trouble because of how much bigger he is than dude and how much damage he could do to him.

I respect that. Had Nurk had to walk by this fan on the way off the court, I’d be cool with it. He walked ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE COURT away from our locker room to confront this guy. Changes everything in my opinion.
I agree. I don't have a problem with Nurk tossing that punk's phone. He was clearly trying to trigger and post. But walking all the way across the court to do it was a stupid mistake.

He is claiming he is getting death threats and IF true that is horrible BUT not Nurk's fault -- he is looking for a quick payday

He should be so lucky if Nurk offered him 10k to just go the "F" away cause I believe if this goes to trial cause the way i see it is let's put aside he is a famous NBA player making millions WHAT IF this was something one of us did .....

The guy might get the cost of his phone and maybe 5k if the judge wanted to teach a regular person a lesson in losing one's temper.

NOW factor in famous person ---- Cost of phone and 10 to 15k so -- this is MAX what this idiot should get -- however IF Nurk could prove he had racial or something stuff said at him a judge might go - -cost of phone and MAYBE 5k or less so again guy might want to look for 10k ish and just go away.

What an insanely inconsistent take! Just imagine the heckler is Chris Rock and it’ll make more sense to you.

Hope Nurk doesn't settle and demands legal fees from this frivolous lawsuit.
Bingo. Nurk can put a lawyer on it and bill all charges to the asshat without much risk to himself. If I were Nurk I'd offer to send him a replacement phone of the exact same model and nothing else.

Chances are though, Nurk's insurance is handling the matter and they will just settle.

All it will really take, though is a few of Nurks teammates to corroborate.

I don't know a ton about insurance coverage, but what would Nurk's insurance claim be? Seems like something very odd to cover. Certainly wasn't an accident.

It's a defamation suit. He may have an umbrella policy that will cover the legal defense. Or probably players have a policy to cover any conduct while on the job.

It will end up being this guy's word versus Nurks. Nurk should easily win though, but if it goes through insurance, they may determine its cheaper paying this guy $200k versus going to trial.

I didn't realize umbrella polices would cover something like that. Your theory that very few cases (civil or criminal) get to trial is accurate for sure. The reason they don't go to trial probably isn't a straight forward as some might want to believe.

Yeah, we used an umbrella policy to defend a defamation case at work a while back.

From reading the article, it implied the guy may have witnesses describing his heckling as G rated... that could be his buddies. You'd think Nurk might have some teammates who heard otherwise.
