If he's out 6-8 wks, I would assume they're repairing it rather than snipping it, so he shouldn't be like Roy with no meniscus left. People always talk about the forces on his knees from landing, but my biggest concern has been the hard cuts at ground level. Think what happened to his shoe, now imagine what his knees are going through... Meniscus injuries may be like Zion's daily bowel movement.
Trimming/scoping rather than repairing makes me think it must've been a pretty minor tear. Still a big worry though. Health is the only holding this kid back from being an undeniable force, but that deck is stacked against him for sure. Hope he makes a full recovery and that this isn't a sign of things to come. Great kid. Great for the league.
I still don't know who this guy is but I think his knee has played for the Blazers a few different times.
Yeah and so it begins. Feel bad for the guy and it seems he has a history of knee injuries. He needs to slim down. Not saying he is fat but he could lose some weight to take off some stress from his joints. In interviews he seems like a great guy.
The other thing that was mentioned by Jalen Rose was how he jumps off of one leg as much as he does while shooting with both hands. So, how he plays may be as much of an issue as his weight it seems.
Weight and technique absolutely affect your landing if you play above the rim like this kid....it's a risky style of game for a big guy at any rate...I tore my meniscus playing singles tennis and it took years to come back fully and any lateral movement in the wrong direction would aggravate it...it's probably the first injury BRoy had to his knee...I've always felt that highlight dunks were an accident waiting to happen for any big basketball player...Lamarcus Aldridge addressed this when he said he didn't want a short career just to play that way. Tim Duncan is the model to pace your game and not beat yourself up when you're young and suffer in your 30s...hopefully this kid has a good physical therapy team in NO...he's got an amazing talent.
Griff's comments are a smoke screen IMHO. I usually like what he has to say but this is stupid. So he is in amazing physical condition but is prone to injuries??? I would take a player in mediocre "shape" that is never injured. Part of being in amazing physical shape is not being injury prone. It's as if he is trying to make us believe that Zion's "body type" is the first of it's kind; science and medicine have no explanation why he would be struggling with bad knees since high school!
When a rookie like him has a Karl Malone career he should start getting some comparisons that are earned....he's yet to play a game that counts and is already torn a meniscus.
