Jrue Holiday straight up for CJ. Better defender and toughness

Why would the Pels do that?
I think it would take a LOT more than CJ to get him.

Neil will never do it. We have a middle of the road team and he seems to be ok with that.

Dame wouldn't let him do that unless CJ wanted a change of scenery.

Maybe Dame's the one that's content with being mediocre then. It's always around trade deadline you hear Dame say something like " The team doesn't have to make big trades to keep me around."

Yup, that's the "defense" I'm thinking of.

Although it doesn't guarantee anything, it can really help to be taller. I remember when we played Kobe and the Lakers, Kobe would back down Wesley Matthews (who was regarded as a good defender) pushing him closer to the hoop and turn around and shoot right over him.
Then the Blazers switched Nicolas Batum onto Kobe, and Kobe quit taking that shot altogether.

I'd rather have Trent than any of the 3 players we'd be getting back from NY.

I'd mayyyyyybe consider this if Hezonja was included and the Blazers ducked the luxury tax. I'd try to flip all 3 players to other teams though for pieces that fit better.

Not high on Knox; would much rather have Frank. DSJ and Portis would be decent pickups though. Definitely not interested in offloading Trent.

All that said, I don't see why NY would want Whiteside.

Good points, my inclusion of Whiteside was primarily as an asset accumulation tool with the thought that NY would like to save on payroll and would see Trent as a value piece in return.

I actually don't think Simmons fits too well next to Dame. Simmons has a lot of value I just think he'd be better somewhere else and we better not be the team giving the Sixers picks in this trade. All of that said, I've been in the trade CJ camp for a while now, just not for another guard who needs the ball in his hands to be effective on offense.

I'm not in the trade CJ camp.

But if you can get a young all star I would.

Simmons fits great next to Dame. Dame can space the floor when Simmon's has the ball. If Dame is trapped with the ball Simmons can create as Draymond did with Steph. Ariza, Simons, and Collins would be great too with this lineup as well as Hotford.

Now Nurkic I'm not sure complements Simmons but I make this trade and worry about that if it becomes an issue next year.

Simmons has no ability to shoot 3-pointers. He is better compared only to himself rather than to Draymond Green. Green has 2,083 3-point attempts in his career. That averages to 260 per season over his 8 seasons (including playoffs).
Simmons has a total of 24 three-point attempts in his 3-year career. That's 8 attempts per season including the playoffs, where he has 1 total in 22 playoff games.

Unrealistic, I'm sure--but who says no to a deal constructed thusly (besides Neil)?

    upload_2020-2-6_7-59-31.png

Dallas gets two starters to make a run this season.
Portland ducks the tax and has a couple expiring deals for next season.
Wolves get the backcourt running mate for KAT they've been seeking for a while
GSW saves a ton and gets a promising rookie.

That is awful for us. We're trading CJ for that?
