We need a forward that's over 6'6, that can score, board, and play some 5 when needed. We'd be trading CJ that isn't a great defender either.
Dallas needs another ball handler that can score.

I mean yeah we do, but we also don’t need any more defensive liabilities. It’s moving issues from one position to another. And I don’t see Porzingis as an upgrade over CJ offensively. And he’d be a downgrade defensively over Roco and Nance. It just doesn’t make sense.

What we need are defenders that can switch on the perimeter and guys that can create for others. Preferably one of each.

I must admit that it kind of intrigues me. (1 for 1) We are not that bad defensively with Norm at SG, and Little, Nance, and Roco rotating at forward. The problem is that it is not enough scoring in the frontcourt. A lineup of Dame, Norm, Little, Nance, and Porzingis might work well. (Simons, Roco, and Nurk rounding out the top 8)

I think he can be a decent rim protector and rebounder along with scoring down low. How many points does RoCo & Larry give you consistently down low. Larry isnt an offensive player and that's cool Id bring him off the bench and allow RoCo to play three and Powell 2.

Porzingis isn’t a good low post scorer.

    CJ for Porzingas?

ok now, the problem with CJ is that the NBA is dominated by 2-way 6'6-6'10 wings who can shoot from the perimeter and put the ball on the floor and drive. Guys with strength and speed. CJ's problem is that at 6'3 he has no prayer of defending those guys, and him taking minutes and usage restricts Portland's ability to matchup with those wings

so then, the solution to a 6'3 SG problem is to trade it for a 7'3 PF problem?

He's decent down low has a much better hook shot than Nurk, better hands overall near the rim than Nurk.

he get 1 1/5 blocks per game how many does Nurk get 1/2 pg. He's a much better rim protector than Nurk. He shoots a high percentage?

I don't think these people are wired that way. They might not be in the office but when they hear shit from a source they're on their phones. I bet none of them put their phones down even on Christmas. Especially our front office right now. Cronin can't let anything get past him if he wants that interim tag to come off. There are a lot of front offices with pressure to improve as soon as possible. So I don't think these guys ever take a two week holiday.

We have 3 players in the top 50 in DBPM

    Nurk
    Nance
    RoCo (who’s now top 25)

Yet these guys get thrown in hypothetical trades or get mentioned by media (nance) as trade pieces more than anyone else.

Our three guard lineup with Dame, CJ, and Powell have been a net negative, yet they’ve played nearly 4 times as many minutes as any other combination.

I’m prioritizing trading both CJ and Powell if I’m
Cronin. Neither is coming off the bench and have more value in a trade anyway.

I hope we don't think we can afford to wait till trade deadline to make moves.

Yeah his DPM and steal percentages are identical to last season while his blocks are up. It’s on the other end where he’s struggled, although it’s been more inconsistency than anything as he shot nearly 39% from outside in November. No doubt he’s gonna have trade value, but we shouldn’t trade him just to trade him.

well ive been beating this drum for a while now that he will have value. any team looking for a defensive minded wing would want him and he's more than just a salary dump.

that said, if we can extract a first for him, i'll be helping him pack. after this rocky start, i see him walking this summer in FA and i don't want to lose another asset for nothig.

I don’t think we should be prioritizing dumping defensive minded players. Theres a surplus at guard you can get picks for instead. Having rocos bird rights helps as well, should they decide they wanna keep him long term.
