If they traded LMA the only way they get that 25m + assets is if they had traded for expirings. They wouldve had to take back salary?

I mean i get what you’re saying. I just dont think it was all that devastating. Mightve been.

Yeah, that’s what I said, right?

Trade him for expiring contracts plus picks. The expiring contracts would’ve expired in 3 months or whatever and we would’ve had at least 1 additional draft pick — and that’s being more than lenient — in my opinion. So, we retain cap space plus add assets.

Probably could’ve fielded legitimate packages on top of that.

We can agree to disagree! That has by far been the most devastating thing to happen recently, in my opinion. Can’t just let all stars walk away from the franchise with “cap space” to show for it. I mean, I believe Paul George even brought up the fact the whole reason he finally admitted he wanted a trade was so that the pacers didn’t get fucked.

I truly believe there was a small shot LMA would’ve stayed which would be the best counterpoint and arguably why he didn’t request a trade privately, but it wasn’t worth the risk in my opinion. Too many red flags (before hearing the post season articles).

If you’re saying trade him the summer before, I guess I would be ok with that, depending on the package. The season before they did make it to the 2nd round though, so I think it wouldve been hard on fans to say right after the Dame shot, well were trading our 1st or 2nd best player and starting over. I legitimately believe that the Blazers thought they had a good run in them LMA’s last year. I actually enjoy the respectful conversations! So yes we can agree to disagree :).

Those are really tough decisions to make and we dont know how things turn out if they trade him.

My feeling is the 2016 spending spree was pretty devastating. It wasnt just the amounts they gave but they gave all those guys 4 years, and seemingly were bidding against mainly themselves with the exception of crabbe.

If LMA knew the summer before he wanted out then I think him at least being honest with NO and the FO wouldve been a better way to go, but if he wasnt sure I dont really know if it was on him to say anything. Maybe Neil shouldve pulled the trigger, but thats more on NO to make a judgement call to me.

Dude left the arena during the game. With his agent.

Rich Paul has no shame. This dude bout to blackballed by the league. Why are players still signing with him?

It's a shame the Pels can't afford to sit on his contract out of spite. I'd love to see a team do that to a player who has acted like Davis has.

Hey Pelicans -- You can have NeO -- he is a great GM -- the fans will even help pack his bags for him.

Now the real reason i want this to happen -- NeO falls in love with his draft picks and players so i figure a deal after he is the New GM in NO we then trade for AD with an offer like ....

Turner , Aminu and Myers and 2 1sts for AD and whatever else to make contracts work

the Pelicans are really getting screwed, over and over.

* First, AD and his agent put them in a real bind with a deadline trade demand

* they do the right thing and field offers but decide it's in their best interest to wait till summer instead of hastily buckling to the demand

* they also decide it's in their best interest to keep their fragile super-star healthy by not playing him but the league fucks the Pels by threatening fines and loss of draft picks

* they clear AD to play and after only a week, he fucks the Pels again by leaving the arena in the middle of a game in a completely unprofessional manner which further fucks the Pels because it makes AD look like an asshole represented by an asshole, which in turn damages the value the Pels will eventually get in a trade

I'd like to see the Pelicans suspend AD for 20 games for bad conduct. They can suspend him with pay if they want, but at least challenge both the NBA and AD's agent in an attempt to defend themselves in a horrible situation.

Its a bad look for AD but I don't think this really hurts his trade value at all. If he doesn't have an injury that requires surgery the Lakers package will still be there and the Celtics entering the field will potentially up what other teams are offering as well regardless of how much of an ass AD and his agent look.

I doubt the Lakers offer that much again.

I also doubt the Celtics will offer as much as people think.

What if Kyrie leaves?

New Orleans playing hardball while great for the little guy, might screw them in the end.

I applaud Dell Demps for not trading Davis to the Lakers!
They can get more than what LA is offering easily and they will.

My only caveat to that is that if they traded AD, then their record might be worse than it will be if they are forced to play him. This potentially damages their 2019 pick position. Best case for NO is that Davis is "injured" for the rest of the season.

Assuming AD is okay with going to Boston, isn't AD being "injured" something he and his agent might want to stand behind, as well as the team? No sense in AD taking a chance on really getting injured or having something else happen to screw up his trade value. Maybe AD and his agent will help the Pels out by remaining "injured" off and on for the rest of the season. Those nagging contusions can be a real bummer. :-)
