This stinks:

JohnCanzanoBFT John Canzano
TJ Ford to Blazers has real legs. Portland would pay PG the minimum and Indy takes the balance of Ford's $8.5 million contract.

That makes no sense as I'm not sure that's legal under the CBA.

As a backup point guard for the remainder of the year? He beats the hell out of Patty or Armon.

It makes sense. They are determined not to improve the team in any meaningful way. TJ fits in that vision perfectly.

I'm pretty sure that means that Indy's buying him out after the deadline, and we'll sign him for vet min if Miller goes somewhere (or even if he doesn't).

TJ Ford has much more value to this team than Sean Marks.

And this isn't baseball...you can't make a trade with the other team "taking the balance" of the contract. Canzano knows very little about the CBA. He's been called on in it in the past by people smarter than me, and still doesn't get it.

Oh c'mon. You really think TJ Ford is a step down from "Patty Cakes" at backup point guard? GTFO.

Playing him over Patty isn't much of an upgrade, and I'm not a not a Patty fan. TJ can't shoot or push the ball as well, but is a better defender. It's a push.

wait...TJ Ford can't push the ball as well as Patty Mills?

Patty shoots 30% from 3. TJ shoots 29%.

He IS a better defender. He also has some pretty significant playoff experience.

I'm not saying he's our PGotF, but he's a decently solid player with too big a contract.

He's not as fast on the break from seeing both of them play this year. Either way, this pickup won't be meaningful at all. We are still a team built to beat the Jazz, Suns and Nuggets, not the teams we are looking up at in the standings.

I loved TJ Ford a few years ago. But if this is legal, I'd be really interested in this deal. TJ and LaMarcus seem to be good friends; they tweet each other quite a bit. But he would be nothing more than a backup here.

Canzano says Paul and his crew are gonna run the show today, and Cho is essentially going to be a mouthpiece.

And Patty can't pass and has trouble keeping his dribble alive when pressed and gets beaten like a rented mule on 'D.' I don't love TJ Ford, but if this team is committed to trying to make a playoff push and isn't going to make any splashy moves with guys like Miller and Camby being shipped out, then adding a guy like Ford for the veteran's minimum to play 10-15 minutes a night then I don't have any problem with that.

It's not sexy and it doesn't do anything to raise this team's ceiling but it probably solidifies their floor.

Of course it won't change any of that, but it doesn't do any (obvious) harm either.

Deleted. Do you really believe what you wrote?

LOL @ believing anything Canzano says when it comes to the Blazers. He has no connections and is willing to make up stories from whole cloth.

No offense, but are you fucking retarded? Do you really believe what you wrote?

Lateral move in my opinion. For all the energy the management has expended up to the deadline with a pretty solid set of trade assets and all we get is TJ Ford? That shows me there's no real drive to improve this team in a meaningful way. Canzano was on the BFT a moment ago echoing the common "the team overvalues their players" sentiment that has always sunk this organization.

BTW this is thread started off a Canzano rumor. If he doesn't know s**t, then why even comment here?

Well, if Johnny thinks it works, it probably doesn't. If you call him on it, he'll either delete, lie, insult or ignore. I despise that douche.

I think this is an example of why Cho makes an OUTSTANDING asst. GM, and not an actual GM. He certainly has the ability to judge players and analyze stats, but he can't close. You have to be a sales person as a GM, and if not you have to accept being run by and over by other GM's

Well, that's what happens when you hire a guy who's been an assistant all his career, I guess. Speaking of which, that might be why PA hired him in the first place.

By the way, I'm not sure that's even remotely possible under the CBA.

Because I had to point out that his structure doesn't work under the CBA. Lemme guess, you were at Canzano's "Draft the Stache" rally a few years ago. How long did it take for the Sharpie moustache to wash off?

Not sure how much of his skill he lost. But at one time this guy was pretty good. A lot cheaper than Wallace that's for sure.

You are aware that it takes two to trade, aren't you? Propose a deal you would have like to have seen that helps us AND makes it a no-brainer for the other team to take.

Allow me to say that signing a bought-out TJ Ford for vet minimum IS a no-brainer for us. Which is what I'm assuming Canzano heard snippets about, and since he can't understand the CBA, figured that since it was Trade Deadline Day that a trade was brewing.

Good grief, people. Just because Canzano is too ignorant to state how this would work correctly doesn't mean that there's something illegal proposed. Like Brian said, this would be a simple buyout of Ford's contract by the Pacers then Ford gets waived. When he clears waivers, the Blazers (or any other team that Ford wants to sign with) can sign him for the vet's minimum. The Blazers would have to waive a player of their own before they could sign him, unless they end up down a player as a result of the Wallace deal being finalized.

This would be a solid move by the Blazers to shore up a weak spot in the roster and it would cost them nothing. It is a side move that in no way impacts their ability to complete a trade for Wallace. In what possible way is this a bad thing?
