This game is a good example of what's wrong with the NBA

You should not change how you call games based on the officiating crew. It is fucking bullshit that one team gets to play aggressive at home with their fans behind them, but once the venue changes they call it tight and they take the crowd (and any rhythm) right out of the game. The games in Memphis and the first half tonight do not resemble one another. Just call all the games the same. The players should not half to adjust game by game.

"Good Defense" requires buy in from the referees. Marc Gasol is allowed to ride Lopez's back on rebounds because the refs allow him to do it. That's "good defense".

We are not being allowed to play "good defense".

Guys... come on, stop complaining about the refs. We are better than that. The Grizz are thoroughly outplaying us.

Courtney Lee gets away with allot

Memphis overall, moving screens galore

Grizz shot open shots. Blazers were always contested. This is a soft roster, with no pride on defensive side of the ball. Don't blame the refs for a second.

This thread is not about why we lost. It is about what is wrong with the NBA. Call the game the same every time. Listening to PJ harp on adjusting to the refs may be true, but it doesn't make it right.

Definitely not singling you out. Just after reading the game thread, then this one, I just have been reading a lot of complaining about the refs. It gets tiresome when the other team is thoroughly outplaying us.

And the fact that most around here make fun of other teams fans for blaming refs, and some get super butthurt and act like five year olds if they feel the refs slighted us.

The aggressor always gets the calls in the NBA. It's nothing new. That's why the Blazers rarely get the calls. They don't go to the hoop much and shoot far too many 3s.

Do not oppose authority. Be a man. The refs have tough jobs. They're only human, being so inconsistent. It's not like they're paid $300,000 per year. Well, even though they are, do not oppose authority. Individualism begets individual responsibility. Pay your bills. Grow up. Shut up.

You are missing the point. The game was called differently tonight than it was in Memphis. For both teams! In the first half (When I posted the thread) we were actually aggressive, and they called it tight. In Memphis they let those same physicals plays go without blowing the whistle. Just call the game the same way every time. Not sure why that is so fucking difficult for them. Neither the team nor the players should be a factor. No one should have to adjust to anything if it was called the same way the whole season.....for every game.

Meh. It's the NBA. Different players, and teams are refereed differently; if you don't like it, you're watching the wrong sport/league.

Look, I completely agree with you. Still, our offense freaking blows.

Every single fucking time we had just a sliver of momentum, the officials blew the whistle to call some ticky tack bullshit. I'm tired of this shot, NBA! On one end, Memphis is allowed to grab, hold, and claw all while setting a plethora of moving screens, while Portland is whistled any time they try to get physical.

Is it the sole reason we lost? No. But it sure as shit didn't help.

The refs did not blow this game for the Blazers. Quit with the excuses. We are overmatched.

Well I would like to see the NBA improve. Just like I am sure you want your team (which ever that teams is) to improve when you "critique"
them. Should you just stop watching them if you don't like what's going on?

Forget any "we would have won if not for the refs" "the refs lost us the game" "we played 5v8" comments. The fact of the matter is this game was not called evenly on both ends, and the refs bought more than one flop. As the OP said the biggest effect these calls had was taking the momentum out of the arena and calming the place down. Pretty horrible officiating for a playoff game.

We could still have easily lost, but I would much rather lose without the refs adding to the outcome.

The NBA has been like this for as long as I have been watching it. Nothing I do will change it. So I don't let it upset me anymore.

It's just the way the NBA is, and I've learnt to accept it. I'm not going to stress over something I can't change.

I watch the Trail Blazers because they're my team (see my sig), and I enjoy watching them play; but because of the way the NBA is, losing disappoints me, however it doesn't upset me.

Unless you're going to run for commissioner, or start a massive grassroots campaign for change; I don't see what getting this worked up about it achieves.

Obviously you can deal with the unfairness of the NBA however you like, but for me this way saves a lot of aggravation.

Game 7 2000, Oden vs. Ming, Game 3 Mem- Por. Proof positive that the league is corrupt, as is most every profit venture.

The refs are not perfect, they miss a lot of calls, and it does not always even out. Every game the refs affect the game by a certain margin, and last night, I think it was enough to make up the difference in the score. Not that Portland deserves to win this series...but the refs do suck.

It's fine if you don't care about the quality of the officiating. Just don't say it doesn't matter, or affect the outcome of a game. Their calls can add or take away points from a team. If they just miss 1 more call per quarter for a certain team, that could end up being an 8 point swing, which is huge

You have obviously never refereed a basketball game.

This was just the NBA's evil plan to force Aldridge out of Portland. They assured Aldridge wouldn't want to stay in Portland because we are singled out!

I kid you not, I have a coworker who has told me exactly this and he fully believes it.

You are correct. And I acknowledge refereeing is hard. You can't see everything. Calls will be missed. This is not my point however.

Why make it more difficult on them by allowing different interpretations of the rules. Why was Afflalo's third foul (away from the ball) a foul last night, but "physical playoff basketball" three nights before?

I never understood why a strike zone in baseball varied by umpires or why some refs in football let more contact by the DB's than others. IMHO individual referee crews have no business changing up how a game is going to be called. There should be one set of rules.....period.

The Blazers should have ended the season 82-0 and I blame the refs.
