He and lillard have become good friends. So we know how that ends......

Good read

"I'd love to come back here," he said. "If they want me back and we can come up with a contract that makes sense, then I'd love to come back here. This has been a great year. I was just telling the guys; this has probably been one of the most fun teams I've been on. This has been one of my most fun years. Because we've really worked for this. We've really earned this. It's a tight group, a great group of guys."

Yeah the good part is I believe he really does want to come back, which means he is OK with coming off the bench.

However as highlighted in the opening post, it will still come down to receiving an offer Hendo likes. Which I am guessing means that if we are close to the highest offer he receives.....we can re-sign him. If we are not....then we lose him.

Nothing surprising there, that is par for the course for all of us.

What else is he going to say? Anything negative could make other GMs not interested.

That's what happened to Kaman, he got a bad rep in the league and we signed him for peanuts.

That said, I would love to bring him back if the price is right. He brings an attitude that we are sometimes lacking.

I was thrilled when we got him and Noah in the Batum trade...he's exactly what you need off the bench. He's loyal, talented and smart. I just don't think there's a more perfect fit for a bench mob leader or to plug in as a starter if needed. Gerald is a keeper! Really hope he gets a good contract here and sticks around.

.

There is a lot of things he could have said without being negative if he didn't really want to come back. He didn't have to elaborate.
It will still come down to money, but at least it appears we have a decent chance. He has only been here 7 months, so it's not like he has a lot of ties here. So I take it as a positive.

Only if we strike out on a big name...

How much is his solid play of late due to him being in a contract year?

I'd put him below Fournier on the priority list - and I like Hendo.

Gerald seems to really emphasize the positive culture in Portland and it seems to have a lot of value for him..good interview. He's a keeper!

Like what could he have said? Nobody wants a downer on there team.

The way he throws his body around for loose balls? I'd say just the opposite, if was playing for his next contract he'd look to score but do everything to avoid injury. He plays hard.

I think Hendo could be a starter on a lot of teams. The SG position is not as strong as it used to be.

Then he will most likely be gone next year, teams will pay more for a starter than we will be willing to for a bench player.

I wouldn't call Kaman's contract peanuts. I didn't think it was a good contract to start with, and I still don't think he's been worth what Blazers have paid him. Since that is really the "worst" contract for the Blazers, it's really not that bad.

He brings some great effort and can legitimately become a scoring threat when we need it. But I hope that he really means fair market value by "contract that makes sense." If we lose Hendo my man crush will never survive!

Not all players only play hard in their contract year. You can usually tell the ones by their personality. And IMO Henderson's personality does suggest that he is that type.

Hendo has been buried on a shit team for years. I've long been a fan and felt he was underrated. He's a solid role player, so he was never going to carry his team the way a Dame can, but guys like him are solid glue guys that make good teams better.

I feel like he's had a way of calming the Blazers down when they're pressing. He keeps his cool and usually makes a shot to get the guys back on track. I think his veteran presence has been felt and I'd really love to see him stay. But, I'm thinking another team will price us out.

Imagine Neil will let him go just so he will have enough money to give Mayers :biglaugh:

The good thing is, he's unrestricted. So it's entirely up to him.

When we signed Kaman it was a great deal for why he was signed. The 2nd year wasn't guaranteed and he'd come off the bench for 15-20 mins for instant post offense. After losing four of our five starters, priorities have changed.

Plenty of players don't make these kind of statements. LaMarcus and Afflalo said nothing of this sort entering the playoffs last year.

Fournier is basically a lock to be matched. No thanks to wasting time on restricted free agents.

Sure we'd rather have Durant but it's good to have an option such as Hendo.

I have a serious man crush on Hendo.

That said, due to his UFA status he's the most likely renounce if the Blazers decide to chase a max FA, which they should.

Gut feeling is he's not back unless we strike out on everyone else.
