I thought the same. I fully expected him to either say he was buying regular season tickets or that we would then follow suit and win it all.

But then I read this biggest in history thing and just realized maybe king isn't he diehard fan I thought he was.

Our definitions of what is "sporting" changes but rituals like baseball remind us what a "pastime." is. Just like cricket is to the English. It gets us outdoors during summer time.

Weekend summer league teams were an important diversion in turn if the century America. It beat spending time at the bar after working 6 days a week or a bunch of arguing children in a two bedroom house. Both the public authorities and the aristocracy realized the importance in an era of labor struggle and terrible city living conditions.
