I went through a lengthy process with my wife's immigration. She became a citizen about 7 years ago but in 1991 she was basically shamed at the INS office in Honolulu and grilled about whether she was a prostitute..came home in tears. A round trip ticket from our home in Hilo was 200 bucks for both of us...they extended her interviews for 4 sessions at 200 a pop plus taking off work to make her case. After a year and a half, we went back to Taiwan in frustration. Finally in Portland it was a positive experience and I'm thrilled she's a citizen now.
I'll just throw out there that there's a reason that there's a Title X that says the military doesn't usually operate inside the US.
http://time.com/3826460/ferguson-national-guard-enemy-forces/ And when you arm your local police with tanks and machine guns, is there that much of a difference?
Yes, I did, but the National Guard is not Title X (unless sent overseas on missions). The 1st Armored Division didn't invade Selma, and F-4s didn't strafe Kent State.
You the citizens are the ones arming (and paying for arming) your police. They don't get that authority from the military.
Lol As long as they aren't sending fighter jets in to bomb protesters. That would just be a little much.
As far as immigration goes, I'm not sure anyone opposes legal immigration. I say just make it all legal, problem solved.
However you consider them, the active duty and reserve military cannot be used in domestic law enforcement (posse comitatus). The National Guard can only be used in doing so at the behest of the state's governor. Once again, your local government at work. Here's what happens when the Army "tries to help" when not asked. http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2009/10/army_reviews_shows_troop_use_i.html
Yeah. Our country has good demographic projections partially due to "ILLEGAL" immigration. Countries like Russia, Japan, and China do not. They are all fucked. USA#1! The main reason Germany decided to accept 800,000 Syrian refugees is because they have the lowest birthrate in the world and a rapidly growing retirement age population and needs workers to pay taxes to fund future benefits. In the near future countries will be begging young people to move to their country.
According to the U.S. Constitution, the militia can be deployed "to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions." And both the president and governors can call up the troops...from the article I linked above
and if they paint it, mow around it and plant some flowers they can keep it...helps if they can spell the word green though
Ike called up the national guard to move the governor of Arkansas from blocking the doors to Little Rock High School; the governor was trying to keep the first black students out.
You missed Hayakawa. My grandmother was his 5th-grade teacher. As San Francisco State College President, he had helicopters bomb demonstrators with tear gas. The little prick was rewarded by Republicans with a U.S. Senatorship, and he was known for snoozing through the proceedings. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S._I._Hayakawa#Student_strike_at_San_Francisco_State_University
I agree with the original post here..I'm not adversely affected by folks from south of the border, I think for the most part they are an asset and not a liability here. When you're poor and single in SoCal...at least you can find a date.
