Brooks is a moron but the Rangers clearly don’t want Trouba around. Right now we’re stuck with the dumbass. My bigger concern is the Rangers continuing to go with these hasbeen scrubs on the lower lines instead of giving more kids a chance. Othmann, Berard and Sykora all need to make the team as a Rangers need more talent and speed. Rempe is useless for the most part. The last thing this idiot should be working on is his fighting skills because the rest of his game sucks.

Is there any info out there saying this was not true? It's been widely reported including by non-Rangers beat guys, none of which are relying on Brooks as their source. Lebrun had it, Friedman had it, Kaplan had it, Seravalli had it. That crew is not in the business of fake news. Brooks had some specifics such as retention that I did not see confirmed elsewhere, but all reports say Drury had a Trouba trade lined up which Trouba then blocked and dug in.

Nobody says you have to believe it, but if you have some backup I'd love to see it.

Kaplan reported it, Brooks reported it, Neil Smith reported it, Vince Mercogliano reported it, Friedman reported it. It was not just Brooks, they all reported on it and said Trouba vetoed a trade to the Wings. It was handled poorly by all involved as far as I can tell.

My understanding is the Brooks article was the impetus for everyone elses's reporting on the supposed trade. Could I be wrong? Yes. Am I wrong? Probably. Does any of this matter?

Bottom line is it's just another example of not giving out moronic NMC and NTC's. Said it for years. Should be an organizational policy. You don't like it. Go fuck yourself. Play elsewhere.

My understanding was they all had their own sources, or independently confirmed. To your point, it doesn't matter now and is what it is. On the surface not sure it was handled well by anyone, Drury, Trouba, organization, whether it was Brooks and/or others. Moving forward it appears the "marriage" will continue, so hopefully everyone will be on the same page.

You are okay with not signing/re-signing top players after their 2nd or 3rd contracts then, yes (essentially when they are done with their RFA years)? Like it or not, 99% of the top players in the whole NHL get some sort of NMC/NTC when their contracts are up.

It's laughable to think Drury would share his offseason plans with Brooks for valuable feedback. These others reporters/former GMs are parroting what Brooks wrote and giving an opinion on it, not verifying the veracity of what Brooks wrote in the first place.

I have not seen anyone suggest this is what happened. In fact the leak could easily have come elsewhere and not Drury and his circle. Drury & co. run a much tighter ship than Gorton did. Brooks has been flailing ever since Drury took over. His best regular sources have been gone for some time. Remember, Trouba and his agent raised hell in Winnipeg. It would not surprise me if the story broke out of his camp to preempt the ability of Drury to trade him somewhere else. Which was the main crux of the story. Trouba has no intention of leaving, trade for him at your own risk.

That is not how I read those reports, nor is that my understanding of Friedman's and Seravalli's sourcing, but we can disagree on that.

I would add Kaplan and Neil Smith to that list as well. I have not seen it written anywhere that all these people with their own insight, and sources, are just repeating what Brooks said and he is center of all this. I do not believe that to be true.

I think Drury wanted to trade Trouba, somehow it leaked out (not sure if it was Drury, Trouba, other that leaked it), Trouba and his team made sure the Wings were on his 15 team NT list. Now there are some hurt feelings based on reporting from multiple people.

As 223 wrote, the takeaway here is Trouba wants to stay in NY, so even if Drury wanted to trade him to a team not on Trouba's list, it would be a tough situation, who knows if Trouba would even go play somewhere else. It is not an ideal situation, and IMO it doesn't appear to have been handled the way it should have been, maybe by all parties.

What was Drury trading for or was Detroit just going to take Trouba''s $8 mil salary for a draft pick? I've seen nothing of what Detroit was offering in return from this panel of learned hockey men or what Drury was asking for thus my skepticism and knowing for decades that Brooks is full of it. What repercussions does Brooks face for bullshitting if he's getting eyes on his story after the hockey season is over?

While I always appreciate the sarcastic humor, I am not sure failing to provide specifics on the return proves that the report is bogus. If the whole idea is to simply find a taker for an $8m cap it, a low value draft pick back is not an unreasonable expectation. I said above that Brooks had specifics on retention, but I have not seen that reported elsewhere so did not even bother speculating further on that.

Agree Brooks is full of it, and even more full of it now that almost all of his sources have left the building. But in my opinion the reporting on Drury's efforts to trade Trouba and Trouba's counterefforts to block it (and hurt feelings) came from too many reputable sources to simply be a case of senile Brooksie running wild.

Again, I like Trouba's game and everything that he brings. But he is not an $8m player anymore. He held out for every penny and Gorton gave it to him, but with high pay came high expectations and the ability of the team to trade him with 2 years remaining. Throwing a fit and saying your wife has a job is not the answer, in my humble opinion.

As for the actual title of this thread: GREAT DEAL. Important player that has surpassed Trouba on the RD depth chart and in reality on the ice. He is going to be an important piece next year and hopefully for years to come.
