They also drafted Michael Kidd Gilchrist instead of Bradley Beal or Damian Lillard.

I've also thought of the Smith comparison as his best attribute seems being a pretty athletic big wing with a jumper. Unlike Jabari though, his J is released out in front of his face not on top of his head... which makes it easier for a defender to block/effect. Agreed on the handle though over time who knows? First blush is that he's probably a 2nd or 3rd option on offense with some defensive versatility.

Out of curiosity… Say Scoot goes 2 and Portland keeps the pick with Miller at 3. If HOU were to offer Jabari Smith, would you do it? Or would you roll the dice with Miller?

I'd rather go with Miller. Not a big fan of Smith Jr.

I am not so sure I am buying this. At least not to the point where he can't improve in all those areas. I have seen highlights of him doing all of it very well.
Granted those are highlights, but they still demonstrate that he has the ability to do it. Now he (like all of them) just needs to work hard to improve. The front offices that are best, identify which ones have the drive to be great. But what he did as a freshman in the SEC is impressive

Not mentioned very often is that Miller has shown good skills passing the ball.
The video points out that Miller shot more and more effectively on 2 point shots in high school.

This is an interesting discussion comparing Scoot Henderson and Brandon Miller. Rob Dauster on the left and Jeff Goodman on the right.

Goodman says," I don't give a shit about fit. If I'm the GM of Charlotte, I'm saying, who is the guy I think has a chance to be a top 5 player down the road."
Dauster: "Who would you take there?"
Goodman: " I haven't seen enough of Scoot. All I'll say is, he can't shoot. Brandon Miller shoots the shit out of it.... He's better than Jabari Smith. He's better at the same stage. Because he can put it on the floor."

Dauster says he's not convinced Miller has the perimeter game of Jayson Tatum.
Goodman says, "Jayson Tatum stood in the corner. First of all, Tatum didn't shoot it well at Duke at all. Like he shot like 35%. When he came into the NBA, they stuck him in the corner for the first half of his rookie year. He didn't put it on the floor at all. It takes time. Jayson Tatum put on a lot of weight up here (shoulders). His first couple of years when he went to the basket, he had no desire for any contact. He had a boy's body when he came out of Duke. Now he has a man's body."

Goodman also says, " I actually think Brandon Miller is a really good passer. I don't think you saw it that much in Alabama. But I saw it on the AAU circuit."

(Goodman was high on Shaedon Sharpe, using comparisons to other players such as Anthony Edwards, at the same age.)

To me, Scoot reminds me of Billy Ray Bates. And that's not bad. It's in the way he moves. But he's not as good a shooter as Billy Ray. It's a pass. But Miller is very intriguing.

Statistically, Miller compares favorably to Tatum in college

Give me Brandon Miller, all day. I think he is a no-brainer if available, even though I like several other prospects.

If he can actually create for himself like Paul George, great. If not he's more like Jabari Smith or Michael Porter Jr, no.

Sounds like a starter but not a star. If I'm drafting at #3, I want a star.

    Not Michael Porter Jr.

    not buying what?

my comments weren't based only highlight videos. Over the entire season, his rim FG in the half court was 39%, which is pathetic for a guy 6'9. Guys who struggle finishing at the basket at the college level and amass points by making contested twos and open threes don't really translate in the NBA. I got duped by Johnny Davis last year and Miller looks sorta like a taller Davis with more hype. Jabari was similar as well.

Of course he can improve, but also keep in mind he is at least a year older than most of his other freshmen peers, sometimes two years older than guys like Whitmore.

that's actually not a bad comp for Miller. And MPJ is more efficient because he knows his limitations and doesn't force.

If true, that's definitely not good enough for a #3 pick.

still not fully there yet with my picks, but i'm souring on miller lately. need to do a deeper dive and see if he improved over the course of the season and how he played against better teams, etc. also want to see what shakes out of the predraft workouts if anything leaks.

leaning more toward the trade down or out route, tbh. let's see where i am the week of the draft.

Another comparison I read was Trey Murphy III.
I don’t know if the comparison was supposed to be complimentary, but Murphy in his 2nd year and 22 years old was only the 3rd player in NBA history to shoot 60% on twos, 40% on threes, and 90 percent on free throws.

If Scoot really is available with the 3rd pick, the Blazers may have hit the jackpot in consecutive drafts. It boggles my mind that people see the 3rd pick as just a number to be traded away.
