Sweet! I’m happy about this hire. Gonna be very interesting to see if any of the recruits decide to stay because of this. Especially the southern boys

Also want to see how the staff pieces together. I would like a few very veteran assistants. Maybe even a former HC

If anybody wants to get a feel for the guy go to his Instagram. Looks like he had very close bonds with his players

Oregon and Georgia open the 2022 season in a Chick-fil-A Kickoff game on Sept. 3 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Agreed he looks promising at first blush. Here's hoping he's bonded with colleges as well as who his Assistant Coaches will be is the next question. With the 9Mil from Mario's buyout added onto the top, the available salary pool Oregon has to spend on those who support Lanning is considerable.

This 5 day long twitter space has been wild. Dan Lannings brother was on last night, tons of current/former players, media, other coaches, and then even the AD jumped on after the hire. Crazy times!

Though it was going to happen regardless of what Mario did, I'm really looking forward to having a QB who can pass next year. The last two seasons have been a painful watch from that perspective even though the WR & TE ranks are stocked. The OLine should have some turnover too (Bass will be missed), but also for the better overall as there are many young studs ready to step up. The next OC will be stoked with whats in place.

Any ideas on who may be candidate for OC & DC coordinators?

reports are that Lanning has a very good relationship with Kenny Dillingham, the OC for Florida State. They worked together on the same coaching staffs at ASU & Memphis.

    Kenny Dillingham

personally, knowing what little I do about him, I'm not real comfortable with Dillingham. He's only 31 years old. Coupled with Lanning only being 35, that seems like inviting too many steep learning curves to the situation. I'd feel better if Lanning hired a more experienced OC because I think, given Lanning's expertise, the OC will be his most critical hire, especially if the OC has credentials as a QB coach

I've heard 3rd hand that Lanning has agreed to listen to advice on assistant coaches from the Duck 'establishment'. I've also hear that establishment will be willing to spend plenty of money on coaching salaries. Between the likely reduced rate for a 1st time head coach and the 9M buyout from Miami, the Ducks will have plenty to spend, at least they will initially

I know that many at Oregon would really like to hold onto Bryan McClendon, the WR coach. He was named the acting head coach thru the bowl game. But he's not ready to be an OC yet IMO, although sometimes being named a co-OC keeps a coach happy, even if the title is simple resume padding

pay attention to recruiting coordinator(s) and analyst positions. The impact some of those guys have is very underrated. Oregon already has a good recruiting coordinator in Don Johnson. But there's no rule saying a team can't have 2 coordinators

Lake as a young D guru hired a 0c that help him lose his job. Many suspected the hire from the outset.
It’s critical that DL gets this right as a first time head coach.
Riley still called plays at OK, I assume he will at SC, plus he’s QB coach.
I hope Dan gets a guy that’s good with developing qb’s too.

a name for OC to keep an eye on is Phil Longo, the OC at North Carolina. Has a lot of experience as an OC. He and Lanning worked together at Sam Houston State and reportedly are real close

Longo develops pretty prolific offenses wherever he goes

He has taken the Air Raid offense and modified it to utilize the vertical passing attack and misdirection of the Air Raid to add a power-running game component while mixing in tempo. If that sounds kind of familiar, think of Chip Kelly modifying the Spread offense that was mostly based on passing to emphasize a power running game....with tempo

something else too: Ducks need some west coast connections. And they really need some Poly influence on the coaching staff. Penei and Noah Sewell's father said Joe Salave'a, Oregon's current DLine coach was essential in getting the two sons to commit to the Ducks
